Monday after school:

Scott met Bree in the library cafe, where she was tutoring him in preparation for his math exam the next day. "Are you OK?" Bree asked. "I've got a lot on my mind." Scott replied. "Just do your best. I have faith you will do well on this exam." Bree said, trying to encourage him. "It's not that." Scott said. "Then what is it?" Bree asked. Scott looked right and left to make sure no one else was watching or listening. "If I tell you this, the only people you can tell are Kitty, Marley, & Jake. No one else can know about this." Scott said sternly, but politely. "I give you my word, no one else will know." Bree said. "It's Sugar. I'm going to ask her to marry me." Scott said. "Really?!" Bree said smiling. "Well, I will, if I can ever build up the courage, the guts, and find the perfect moment to pop the question." Scott replied, chuckling a bit himself. "You will." Bree said. "How do you know?" Scott asked. "Based on experience. Jake knew I was the right one for him, and he knew at prom night that there was no time like the present." Bree replied. "You got yourself a good man." Scott said. "I know, and you've got yourself a fine woman." Bree replied nicely. "Come on, let's get you prepared for this math exam you have to take tomorrow."

"Hey, Bree?" Scott asked. "Yeah?" Bree replied. "Do you ever look back and wonder if you could change a few things about yourself before you had a change of heart?" "All the time." Bree said. "Me too." Scott said. With that, Scott began to sing softly:

(Bold is Scott, Italics is Bree, Underlined text is them singing together)

No one knows what it's like
To be the bad man
To be the sad man
Behind blue eyes

(With that, Bree joined in singing):

No one knows what it's like
To be hated
To be fated
To telling only lies

But my dreams
They aren't as empty
As my conscience seems to be

I have hours, only lonely
My love is vengeance
That's never free

No one knows what it's like
To feel these feelings
Like I do
And I blame you

No one bites back as hard
On their anger
None of my pain and woe
Can show through

But my dreams
They aren't as empty
As my conscience seems to be

I have hours, only lonely
My love is vengeance
That's never free

When my fist clenches, crack it open
Before I use it and lose my cool
When I smile, tell me some bad news
Before I laugh and act like a fool

And if I swallow anything evil
Put your finger down my throat
And if I shiver, please give me a blanket
Keep me warm, let me wear your coat

No one knows what it's like
To be the bad man
To be the sad man
Behind blue eyes

"Thanks I needed that." Scott said. "Me too." Bree replied nicely. "Come on, you've got an exam to pass." "Let's do it." Scott replied.

So tomorrow, Scott takes the all-important math final exam. Will he pass, and will he graduate? Find out in the next chapter.

The song that Scott and Bree sing in this chapter is "Behind Blue Eyes" by The Who.
