"New school, new me, I'll be fine, just gotta avoid everyone," Tobio muttered.
He wasn't about to have a recap of what happened at his previous school. He moved far, far away, no one could find him here, no one knew about him here. He was safe, and with a new fresh start thanks to a sports scholarship he received, he arrived at Ouran High, a prestigious school for the wealthy and talented.
He wasn't poor, he just simply couldn't afford to go this school without the scholarship. His intellect also wasn't exactly... Up to par, but he made up for it in the sports department.
As Tobio wandered down the large corridors and halls, his volleyball in hand, he came across a room labeled as "Gymnasium #4." Perfect. He wanted to practice a bit on his own before he went to get to know the volleyball team.
As he opened the door, a blinding light shined
through, with flower petals being scattered around. Tobio covered his face, avoiding the blinding light and swirl of petals. As he opened his eyes, he found himself standing in front of a group of six boys. Five of them appeared to be older than him while another was... an elementary kid?Being oblivious as per usual, Kageyama asked,"Is this a spare gymnasium? I was looking to do some individual practice." He started fidgeting and fiddling with his volleyball, noticing the strange decor for what was supposed to be a gym.
Tables with pink covers, vases of flowers, and a piano in the very back, alongside various pieces of furniture that seemed far too regal for a gym.
Suddenly, Kageyama was being pushed forward by two of the six strangers and he immediately started sputtering. He was suddenly surrounded by all of them, each of the strangers staring deeply at him.
"Eh? You're the new student everyone's been talking about. I guess you're pretty handsome, but that scowl ruins the look," the stranger with brown, wavy hair and eyes stated.
"Samu~ he's kinda cute~ if we dolled him up maybe Shittykawa over here would be more accepting of him," a blonde haired boy has said, looking at this "Samu" person who appeared to be his twin.
"I guess so Tsumu, what do you think Kuroo?" This "Samu" person directed their thoughts towards the stranger with black hair that spiked up weirdly.
"Well, considering his looks and all of the rumors going around, I see a few merits in letting him join, but not all that many," Kuroo says, immediately lifting Kageyama's fringe and writing something down.
"Uwah~!!! Akaashi-san, can he join us? Please~~~~?" The orange haired kid said.
"Mm... Maybe," Akaashi stated.
Kageyama sat there, frazzled and in a daze. He managed to snap out of it and shouted
"I JUST WANTED TO DO SOME INDIVIDUAL PRACTICE!" and he frustratedly tossed the volleyball and spiked it, hoping to spike one of them in the face.As luck would have it, he did not hit one of their faces, and instead hit a vase, the incoming ball shattering it upon impact.
The sound of the shattering led the six boys to stop and turn towards the vase.
They immediately turned back towards Tobio, the twins snatching both of his arms as Akaashi grabbed his shoulders and held him in place. The little mandarin stepped back from him defensively as the brown-haired man (their presumed leader) inspected the broken vase with Kuroo.
"Let me go! I'll pay you back for your stupid vase just let go!" Kageyama shouted, struggling to free himself.
"Eh? You came here on a scholarship, correct?" The leader said, sending chills up his spine.
"Yeah, so what? How expensive could it possibly be? It's a stupid piece of decor."
Immediately, Kuroo turned around, putting on a pair of glasses and analyzing his clipboard.
"Well let's see, we received that vase from the Maddoka family, and seeing as it was an heirloom, that's at least an extra $150. Adding that to the original price, plus an extra $10 for the inconvenience you caused us, that would be around $6,752 dollars," Kuroo said, quickly removing his glasses. "Can you afford that, Kageyama Tobio?"
Tobio stood there, mouth wide open and speechless. That ugly piece of junk that looked like it was made out of dried Play-Doh cost that much?
"Judging by your expression, I'm assuming you can't afford to pay for it, can you," Kuroo asked, though it came out as a statement over a question.
Kageyama looked down and diverted his gaze, scowling to hide his embarrassment.
"Ne, Tobio~chan was it? How about you pay for the vase by joining the host club?"
So now Tobio knew why the leader was sometimes addressed as Shittykawa.
" There's no way I'm joining whatever this is! I came here for sports and solely sports! Isn't there another way I can repay you?!" Kageyama shouted, still trying to rip himself free of the other members' grasps.
"I, Oikawa Tooru, as the son of the headmaster and principal, could easily strip you of your scholarship, but I think you'd fit in perfectly Tobio~chan! So, join us! You can still do volleyball or whatever you want but you have to spend most of your time here, at the Ouran High School Host Club!" Oikawa explained, causing Tobio to go red in the face.
"H-host club?! I've never been a host?!" At this point, Tobio was just trying to desperately form an excuse to get out of there.
"Not so fast, Kageyama. Oikawa over here can easily get you expelled, and you have a debt to pay, so it wouldn't hurt to join, eh? Besides, lately our guests have been requesting for a new host that appears to fit your personality perfectly," Kuroo stated smoothly.
Tobio, sighing, sank down in defeat. Sensing that he had given up, the twins, Akaashi, and the elementary kid backed away from him and gave him his space.
"F-fine... But can I go to the volleyball club now? I need to get there soon but I kinda got lost..." He muttered.
"Okay then, while you guys get the club ready for our guests, I'll introduce Tobio~chan to the volleyball club, okay? Come on let's get moving Tobio~!" Oikawa said, pushing him out of the room.
"It seems that Tooru-kun has found someone he's interested in," Atsumu said, the other members nodding their heads.
"Well, let's hope that Oikawa doesn't bother Iwaizumi about Kageyama too much. They may be childhood friends, but I'm not sure the volleyball captain can handle the host club's leader patronizing him about Tobio," Osamu said, immediately walking away.
The discussion ended there, with the rest of the club setting up as Oikawa led Kageyama towards the volleyball club.
*Hi! Author here, just wanted to know I did start writing this because I N S P I R A T I O N ! Also, thought it would be cool to release it on Valentine's day because I didn't update my ship headcanons book for it so yeah. Yes, the story is already very different from Ouran Highschool Host Club, but it's just an au based around it. Not everything is gonna be the same because I wanna add in a lot more ships, and I also wanna incorporate things that actually happened in Haikyuu to the story. Also, I haven't watched Ouran Highschool Host Club in a while so I don't remember much. Anyway, hope you enjoyed, part 2 will be up soon hopefully!*
