jeongguk opens his eyes slowly. he blinks a few times and slowly he sees chaeyoung who’s still asleep beside him. he then grabs his phone on the bedside table, squinting his eyes due to the brightness of his phone. he’s completely forgotten to minimize his phone brightness last night. he sighs, it’s only four thirty in the morning. no wonder the sky’s still dark. he needs to get up, though, it’s not like he can continue sleeping when he’s wide awake. so he puts his phone back on the table, planting a soft kiss on chaeyoung’s forehead before getting up. he walks slowly towards the door and turns the doorknob quietly. he looks at her once again and walking out of the room.
as he steps towards the kitchen, he notices his dad is reading newspaper in his striped pyjamas, with a mug of coffee in front of him. he seems immersed in his reading as he does not notice his son’s presence.
“good morning, dad.”
he stops from his reading and looks up, just to greet him back. “you’re quite early today.” he says while smiling a little, then his eyes focusing on the newspaper in his grip. jeongguk smiles sheepishly and scratches his nape, then pours himself a glass of plain water before sitting opposite his dad. there’s a moment of silence before he’s decided to speak up. it wouldn’t bother his dad, would it?
“dad,” he starts, feeling nervous all of sudden. “can i ask you something?”
his dad turns to look at him once again and folds his newspaper before putting it aside. he smiles, “let me guess. is this about chaeyoung?”
jeongguk nods softly, “yeah. uh, what do you and mom think of her?” he looks at his dad expectantly, trying to ignore the fact that his heart is beating rapidly. but his dad continues to smile, this time even wider.
“it’s all up to you, son. i really love to have her as our daughter. your mom, too. we knew it ever since we met her in person, and we’re fascinated by her personality. not only she’s beautiful, she’s also kind and genuine. we’re beyond glad that you’ve found someone like her. we can see how much you love her, guk-ah. and we can also see how much she means to you,” he pauses. he looks at jeongguk fondly, “it’s all up to you now, son. you’re all grown up now, you shall make your own wise decision. your mom and i will support you no matter what happens.”
jeongguk nearly breaks at his dad’s word, touched. he’s close to tears, he just wants to cry right there, right in front of his dad. but he tries his hardest to hold it in. truth be told, he truly can’t wait to spend the rest of his life with chaeyoung. he really can’t wait.
