Iggy
She opens her eyes, and I'm so happy she's back. At first. Until I notice that the color of them is wrong. Her once beautiful golden sunset whiskey eyes are now the color of a mixture of ashes and dust and coal.
"Kendra?" I say quietly, filled with strong but wavering hope. Her eyes flicker to my face. There's no sign of recognition in them.
I help her sit up, rather unnerved. It's almost as if it's puppet reanimation. But I know it's not. I glance over at Anna, who's tensed as if to pounce. She looks extremely uncomfortable, and I can't say that I blame her.
I was lying about where I found the locket, of course. It was a gamble in France, and a resulting sword fight afterward when I lost. I did, however, win the fight. I have no idea how such people came to be in possession of such a priceless object, but it was my duty to retrieve it from them.
"What have you done to my parents?" Her voice is flat. She doesn't sound angry, or curious. Just as though it's a question she'd be expected to ask.
"They were possessed." Anna replies simply, gripping her dagger in her right hand.
"Anna, calm." I tell her. "We would know if she was possessed too." Anna's lip twitches, and she doesn't relax her stance. Gabriel and Castiel look just as untrusting of her as Anna. I realize what sort of position we're in. It's two on three.
I unsheathe my own double daggers.
"Ignael ...." Castiel says warningly.
"Are you certain you know what you're getting yourself into?" Gabriel asks. "You're defending a resurrected human, who doesn't seem to realize the situation she's in, nor does she seem to know any of us. All against your own family."
I nod, positive of my decision. Kendra is still Lucifer's vessel, and I have to protect her.
Suddenly, in my head, there's a brilliantly loud, high-pitched ringing as angel radio clicks on.
"You must go to Israel to retrieve the book of Secrets." The voice says, and I see Kendra perk up at the sound. "Await further instructions there."
We all share a look, mostly distrustful. Kendra heard them. Over angel radio. No human should be able to hear them. No human has ever been able to hear them unless an angel was projecting, and even then, it's just a painful ringing.
Kendra stands, letting her arms swing to a stop. Her eyes still look dead.
"Well?" She says tonelessly. "Let's go."
Gabriel grabs me roughly by the arm. His eyes are blazing.
"Do you have any idea what you've done?" He hisses. I pull my arm out of his grip, rubbing away the fingernail marks.
"I brought a friend back from the dead."
"Ignael, you have not been on this earth long enough to know the consequences of your actions, but I know the signs. I've seen this before." He says. "You just raised a Nephilim from the dead."
A Nephilim is an angel/human hybrid, and is a creature that is outlawed. If created, they are usually immediately destroyed, and the creators punished by Death himself. Nephilim are extremely dangerous, and completely illegal.
"Kendra is a Nephilim?" I choke out. Gabriel nods.
"Yes, and you've just made her ten times as dangerous as before." He says. "You destroyed her conscience."
Anna and Castiel look positively mortified. I have made a huge mistake. It's not like I knew what I was doing, though. Technically, I've only been around for a few millenia. Gabriel's been around far longer than that, so of course he's seen Nephilim changed and destroyed.
I whirl toward Kendra, backing up away from her.
"Let's go." Anna says in a low voice. "Leave her here."
"But we can't!" Castiel protests. "If she really is as dangerous as all that, then we can't just leave her on her own. She'll end up killing someone."
"Cas is right." I say, but Gabriel holds up a hand to silence me.
"You have no say in this." He says. "You caused this mess." I shut my mouth, frustrated with them. I know it's my fault. I know I was stupid.
Gabriel's right, though. I admit that.
I'm just not sure what I've gotten us into. But I know it can't be good.
