"Did you ever think of her good side?" Dante roars into my ear.. As if she has ever been good. He seems upset with the fact that I couldn't let Marie in last night. I had promised myself I won't be letting losers around me anytime. Life had taught me the toughest of lessons I did not apply for, but does it really matter? I had met Marie at Stephanie's place, a mutual friend. She was so hot. Petite, with a caressing smile. She was pretty I must admit and she was my first mistake. Straight, shoulder-length black hair, the same soft brown morning coffee. Smooth, perfect skin, straight, pert nose, full pink lips. Christ. She was beautiful!
We had had a fight on Friday and I just erupted on her. I am not the fighting lot but I'm really good at arguments, I mean we can argue all day and I won't back out. Apparently, Marie had gone out with her so-called-besties and drank her guts out. Had I not warned her against having too many glasses than she has water, I could have been gentle on her. This was the third time last month that Marie has been going out to I don't know where with her friends and only to get called by some Rosella or whatever that arrogant girlfriend of hers is calling me at three in the morning to pick her up from Baileys, their favorite vodka spot. I have known baileys to be of the old frogs who there to kiss our little girls. I detest the place. I mean isn't there any place in Rongai where someone can drink his soul peacefully without necessarily showing off their sexy bodies!
"Bro, don't you see she is a loser? I mean do we need a VAR to review the recent happenings since I started dating this girl? I guess you are disoriented by her beauty." You are a disgrace; I say that in my head. Dante has been my best friend since our pack collapsed. University was over and now everyone had gone their way. We occasionally talk and catch up at a local spot with half the members of Wolf Gang, the best college troupe I ever got involved in. with seven ladies and about nine men. Three of our ladies dropped out of campus to get married. Others got pregnant on the way and two are now professors in their respective fields.
Marie was one girl I could never let go of. I guess we had promised a lot. Or I was ignoramus of the infatuation that had swept away my ability to think straight. It was three, the crack of dawn when my cell rings for the third time through the night. It was Marie's call and I knew she wasn't calling to tell me she loved me. I don't know she had taken a cab or one of her silly girlfriends drove her to my apartment. We had resided at the apartment for the seventh year now with Dante. Since we graduated and got jobs nearby. Dante must have heard the loud knocks that I ignored and went to answer the door. Marie was at the door, wasted and shivering. Dante was one who could pity a mosquito I killed because he says I'm always inhumane. He let her in and let her sleep in his room while he slept on the couch.
I wake up at sunrise because it was a weekend. No job today! I wade across the living room to find poor Dante on the couch snoring, this is the first time I hear him doing this. I laugh at him as I head towards the kitchen in my Calvin Klein boxers and a vest. Hardly had I reached the kitchen door when I heard a banging sound from the room. I cautiously tiptoed to peep and try to get that rat messing in my kitchen. I half-faint at the sight of Marie, looking all beautiful in that oversize t-shirts, loose and tight at the same time, I could see the faint suggestions of those gorgeous curves beneath the thin navy fabric. The grey color stood out against her tanned skin. I was so lost in the moment, thinking of how beautiful she had been when her voice brought me to reality.
"Good morning babe?" I lose focus.
Good morning, I hesitantly reply.
I slept over but didn't want to wake you up so late, so Dante gave me his room. Now here is breakfast.
I am half-mad at her, half happy she made us breakfast, I try to convince my heart I don't love her but her amazing body! I realized she was staring, but it was okay because I was also staring. And when I met her gaze, and those warm chocolate brown eyes pierced into my soul. I am dying from urge, the strong urge to have her in my hands, hug her passionately, and say I am sorry for last night. I knew I was overreacting but neither could I get my shit together. God! How does this woman always get away with this? Voices in my head seem to tell me a different thing from what my heart communicates. Marie's presence seems to caress me. I now want her more than I want breakfast. If I could have stayed for ten more seconds, I guess I could have done what I could regret later. So I just chuck and slide into my Nike sweatpants and my new Jordans. I pic my Audi car keys and roll out patting Dante to tell him I am off to Port More, the gaming lounge we had established back then during our campus heydays which now has grown to be the most popular gaming spot in the capital.
