Introductions can be hard. How do you start a story about something you know by heart? I guess we start with two brothers. Not of earth, but they resemble humans. One with red hair, charming looks, they got all the good genes. The other, a bit on the pudgy side, green hair and the self confidence of a clam. The first's name is Galeflyn, The second's, Vespillio. Now you wouldn't think it at first but Vespillio, the meeker larger of the two, was the older brother by 3 years. Gale was well liked by their parents. Being treated like he was the best, pampered, spoiled. The other, not even a second glance. When their mother and father split, due to an unfortunate accident, things became far far worse for Vespillio. He was 10, his brother 7, and things went downhill. His mother would take frustrations out on him. Be it verbal, or physical. He would come to school battered and bruised but, not even his teachers paid attention. He did get into fights with the other kids, so they assumed it was that. To make it worse, his brother started to follow suit, physically attacking his older brother. Vespillio however, never fought back. Knowing if he did his mother would, as she told him, "String you up by your neck and gut you for the birds". Vespillio lived in constant fear, not knowing if today would be a good day for his mother, or a bad one. Once in highschool, he dropped out as soon as he could. Working at home under his mother with her funeral parlor business. He was forced to learn how to perform an autopsy, how to dress the dead, and how to embalm all from such a young age. He became numb to the idea of death. He soon however found a release. A place to be himself. He found himself sneaking out in the early hours, volunteering his time at animal shelters to clean cages, and take care of animals. He saw himself in them. Alone, afraid, no one who really loved them. His mother however found out about this, and quickly started to become more violent with him. Knowing he 'disobeyed' her like that. After a few more years, they moved. Away from the shelter, away from anything he seemed comforting. A new place away from anyone he knew with a population of a few thousand. That's where I'd like to begin. And this story starts with an opossum.
