Luck. Isn't. Real.

I'm saying this right now, so don't go interrupting me by telling me it is. Because really, it's not.

Neither are coincidences. Once you understand that, life all of a sudden makes sense (okay, not really), and you don't have to worry about the things you can't control in your life. Well, to be honest, life technically isn't supposed to make sense, but that doesn't mean that you shouldn't try to understand it. Take it from me.

As you probably already know, I have one hell of a life, and I've experienced things you probably haven't. Like killing monsters, refusing immortality, craving blue food, you get the gist? So I know what I'm talking about. And over the years, I've come to a realization of the one thing that controls your whole life.

Fate. Yes, it's real. Unfortunately

Now I know, maybe you don't believe in fate. Maybe you believe that you are in control of your life, which you are, to a certain extent, and I get it. Some people just think that way, and I personally do, to a certain extent. But what I don't get is how you all refuse to believe in fate, but then believe in luck and coincidences. That annoying girl that you met in middle school turned out to be the love of your life? Well, it was just a 'coincidence'. You managed to pass all your courses without studying? Luck, obviously.

But fate? No, there's no way I'm not in control of my own life. It's mine. How could a simple idea control me? I chose when to wake up, whether to do my homework or not. Heck, I even get to decide whether or not it's worth it (it really isn't) to miss out on the ending of Finding Nemo rather than take a two minute break to pee.

But here's the truth; fate doesn't alter your decisions. Your decision, alters your fate.

Take a moment to understand that. To understand that you have power over what you want to do, but not over how the world may react to it. We can't even seem to wrap our heads around a possibility where you could have taken a different course in life.

If you threw a paper airplane across your classroom and got it into the trash bin, that's not luck. That was fate. It was destined that at that moment, you were going to get it in. How could you have altered that? By not making the airplane in the first place. Oh, come on, bad example? Don't tell me you've never done it, because if you seriously haven't, then where have you been this whole time? My childhood mainly consists of badly thrown airplanes.

Sorry, got sidetracked. Let's say you end up becoming the boss of a company, and the kid who bullied you back in high school now works for you. How? Because you decided to ignore whatever they said, strive to be who you are and prepare for the world you were going to go into. If you chose to give up, pick a different career, or even if you moved to another school because of it, no one can guarantee that you would have become the person that you are today.

So can you change your fate? Of course you can. Is it easy? No, not really. The way you live is out of habit. You get up, maybe eat, and do whatever you need to do, whether that be work, school, or maybe pooping in your diaper. In order to change your fate, you have to change yourself. If you want something in life, it's not going to be served to you on a silver platter. You are going to struggle for it. You are going to go through hardship and pain and problems and think 'what did I do to get the world to hate me like this?!?! '

Because that's what life is like. So deal with it, and wait out the storm. When you become successful, people only see the person you've become, not the person you were. Not the struggles, not the pain, not the attempts at failure.

Because you have the choice to do what you want to do. Fate may seem scary, but you're the driver on the bus, so you should be scared. Fate is going to be that bump in the road that gives you anxiety and makes you take the wrong exit.

If you want to drop out of school, that's your decision. Your fate shapes and molds because of the decision that you make. If you decide to become an architect, engineer, doctor, actor, artist, lawyer, whatever career you wish to pursue, that is the same path that your fate is going to throw obstacles and even make you fall off course. But you have the choice to get up and continue walking, or give up and drown in your failures. Every person has failures, whether they be big or small. But some people ignore them, and continue despite them.

You have the power, but you don't realize that you do.

If you change the path your life is taking, don't go around saying that you were destined for it, because really, it wasn't fate that changed your course, it was you. You had that willpower to give up what you were doing and attempted something new.

A teacher of mine once told me "If you don't want to go to Texas, don't take the bus."

Which I suppose doesn't really make sense, now that I think about it, because who wouldn't want to go to Texas?

Sorry. Got distracted. ADHD, remember? Anyway, you're probably wondering why I'm giving you guys this exhausting lecture. Don't worry, I'm tired too, but it relates a lot to what I have to say next.

The Fates hate me. If that wasn't obvious, then I don't know what is.

And so does Chrion, apparently, because why else would he be calling me to the Big House alone at this time. At this point, I say that whatever happens to me is not my fault. Sure, I could have altered my fate by ignoring the kid who summoned me. But what would that make me? Didn't I just give you guys a big lecture on how to fight through your problems, not give in to the troubles of fate and come on top?

But oh no, that's not it about fate. You see, fate also has a way of taking all the success you've ever had, and throwing it back at your face, toppling you over from where you once stood.

Now of course, some people obviously do deserve to get thrown to the ground and understand reality, but reality is harsh. Sometimes even harsher than fate. How? You'll see, eventually. I should have probably started with that at the beginning, but seriously, I just needed you guys to get that I'm not lucky at all. All the stupid things I've done with my life were done without luck. It was just the Fates who were like; This demigod looks like the perfect child to give a life of loss and hardship. He should be praising us for making his life a struggle and turning him into the modern Hercules!

And unfortunately, I can't blame fate for everything, which really sucks. Although I can blame the Fates for trying to kill me. Like, all the time.

Chiron too, apparently.

Let's see what fate has in store for me.

Yep, I know, I suck at this. No, this isn't really prologue, in case you were wondering, but this is a just a preview that I used to sort of introduce Percy's personality and his adventure. 'Course, you can't quite figure out the plot, but I personally think I did really well for a chapter. (and really, whose gonna read this?) Polite criticism is appreciated and I apologize for any grammatical mistakes, but please, lets not have any online fights. I hope you all enjoyed my sorry excuse of a chapter and have a great day!
