She lived in a kingdom of sparkling beauty. Every blade of grass was green, and every crop grown in every year had been perfect and ripe. All the animals were graceful, and all the citizens gleamed in the utmost wonder. Life in the kingdom was like a fairy tale.
When the princess was born, the kingdom rejoiced. They had never seen her, but they were so happy for the small royal family, and a large festival was held as celebration of her birth.
Many years after her birth, the king had passed from illness. The queen could not take the pain and was bedridden from her sadness. Her pain induced anger inside of her, and she treated the princess cruelly. She did not want to see her and only wanted to be taken care of by her servants, for she did not want to remember how the family used to be.
But one day, the queen called the princess in. She gave the princess a basket, and told her that she wanted delicate food from the market far past the palace. The princess accepted her mother's orders and left the palace to find the market.
The princess had never left the palace before, so she undoubtedly had gotten lost. There were many people around her so she decided that she would ask for directions. However, whenever she would ask someone for help, they would become repulsed by her and walk away. She asked and asked around, but everyone seemed so disgusted by her.
Soon she found the market on her own. Ignoring her confusion, she searched for a shop selling delicacies. She had found many shops of the like, but none of the sellers wished to talk to her. They would turn their backs on her, refusing to sell. Soon everybody in the market had assumed to ignoring her completely. She did not know why the people were treating her this way, until she looked in a mirror at a shop and saw her reflection for the first time.
She was very, very ugly.
