The night was long and drawn out I was lead on my back and could slowly feel myself loose feeling to my upper body from the cold wind blistering my body although when I looked up at the sky a warm feeling would glow in the center of my chest, It was so cheesy but I really feel like I belong here even though I did practically just get kicked out of Dr. Dolittle's home and now lead on his royal white gazeebo admiring the view I had been blessed with, the land he had seemed to go on for miles and because of the lack of unnatural lighting, the moon lit the place up like something in a fairytale, as I was in mid-thought I heard soft footsteps approach me from behind.
"Would you like to start again?"
I sat up immediately and turned my head to be faced with John Dolittle but he really, really, didn't look like he used to. his scruffy hair down to his shoulders and a beard which was a tripping hazard, I was truly and utterly speechless.
"I-I-That would be wonderful Mr. Dolittle" I finally stuttered stumbling onto my feet and taking the hand he had placed in front of me, he was very gentle just as I imagined flipping through the pages of his work.
He still seemed skeptical of me and I couldn't tell if it was because I was a stranger just walking into his house or the fact he's locked himself away from people for a few years now but either way, he leads me back into the house where this time I take in more of his surroundings and slowly I noticed the alarming amount of animals he had inside his house, all of their eyes followed me and as John made his way further on I slowly followed behind jaw dropped and the excitement of a 5-year-old in a candy store but yet all the animals acted the same way as him, timid.
"Mr. Dolittle-" I started as he walked back to me his body not too far from mine, he was much taller than me so he was looking down at me.
"Why are you here?" He was completely blunt in his word towards me.
"Well, you see..." I started shuffling some items around in my bag before fulling out my notebook and flipping through the pages so I could show Mr. Dolittle my sketches.
"I follow and document the animals around the area, I used to read your journals all the time. You and Lily really brought me to my feet"
There was an awkward silence as the man flipped through the worn pages smiling to himself slightly but I knew I could see behind the hurt in his eyes and the memories of him and Lily flooded his mind.
"You're a very intelligent young lady aren't you?"
He handed me my notebook back, his fingers brushing mine as he did.
"I wouldn't say intelligent but I worked very hard"
It was really hard to stay this calm and contained around Dolittle, for my whole life I and looked up to him and Lily but now I'm standing in his living room? or bedroom? or...
well, whatever room this was I was standing in front of him and I could feel my heart beating through my chest.
"I'm guessing you need a place to stay then?" His accent rolled off the tongue so well it mesmerized me, I just nodded and he gestured for me to take a seat on the sofa which was covered in all kinds of blankets and pillows.
I smiled as the most adorable long-haired Lurcher jumps up by my side, he was wearing glasses which is quite unusual for a dog but never the less I scratched behind his ear and giggled as he jumped around and licked my face a little.
"Jip leave the dear girl alone" I heard John call as we walked back into the room holding a cup and a few blankets draped over his arm.
"Here, thought this would warm you up a little more," he said placing it down next to me and leaving the blankets to the side.
