Entering new territory was always so scary considering we have no idea just what it will be like. But a place called Santa Carla didn't sound all that bad. Until I read the back of the sign that is and wanted to turn right back around and never look back. Murder Capital of the World was written in bold lettering, not reassuring me what so ever.
"Mom? You do realize you just moved your kids into the murder capital of the world right? Just wait and see what you'll subject us to with a name like that." Suddenly, Michael's hand came down on my mouth, shutting me right up with a humored look shining in his eyes. Michael is my older brother and honestly the best one a girl could ask for. He's protective. But just because he wants me to be safe. His curly haired self can be a major pain. But I love him none the less. I got to give him a hard time don't I?
"Misty's right mom! I mean, why?? We're going to end up being dead meat." I chuckled a little from the dramatic tone Sam always seems to have with everyone and about everything. He's my twin. Yeah.... I know. Except I look more like Michael. Hair color and everything. But Sam and I are thick as thieves.
Before moving day approached, we made a pact to never let anything or anyone tear us apart. And have each other's back through it all. Since our parents divorce, it's been rough. But maybe this place will give us a good fresh start. Moving in with our grandpa should be wonderful. Hint the sarcasm. Although he's entertaining. So there's that. But why live in the murder capital of the world? Honestly not a welcoming name. But I just sighed looking at mom through the rear view mirror as she drove on into Santa Carla and never looking back. She's honestly my hero. Lucy Emerson is the strongest woman I know. And she loves us three unconditionally. We're strong together. So let's hope everything will be okay.
"Guys come on! Don't pay attention to that stuff. Enjoy the ride. And living here will be a good thing for us." Her bright smile instantly warmed me and I felt so happy seeing her smile like that. She genuinely seems happy to be here. And I don't want to ruin that for her. And as I looked up at Michael to see him casually looking out at all the excitement happening near the pretty popular boardwalk, I nudged him slightly. I honestly love to annoy him. Being the only girl of three kids is a challenge. But honestly, I don't think I'd want to change it.
"Nanook looks happy." I chuckled slightly from his tail wagging back and forth, practically slapping my hand since someone had the bright idea to put me in the middle of these two. Thanks Sam.
"Mom, keep going please. This music blows." Her eyes averted to the back seat to look at our bored faces and smiled a little, before changing the station to something she knew we would be happy with. And I sat back and decided to just give in and enjoy the ride, the music. And well, the undeniably loud bickering of Michael and Sam picking on each other. The life man. But maybe this place wouldn't be so bad after all. Maybe the people will be interesting enough to make me want to stay. And hopefully, I won't end up murdered on the boardwalk. That would be wonderful.
