Taehyung's mother was frantically looking around the house to make sure things were presentable before hesitantly walking towards the door.
Meanwhile Taehyung was standing timidly by his father, eyes cast downward and preparing himself for the prince.
But unfortunately the heavenly scent never came, instead heavy stomping of the king's guards' shoes filled his ears as two of them marched into his humble home.
He could see the way his mother's shoulders visibly relaxed, realizing that she was not going to be in the presence of the royal family.
He on the other hand, couldn't hide his disappointment wishing it had been the prince who had come to retrieve him.
"By royal decree, the king has demanded for the presence of omega, Kim Taehyung." One of them said, voice monotone.
Taehyung couldn't help but gulp harshly and shut his eyes tightly at the next few moments that followed.
His mother was hugging him tightly, tears in her eyes as Taehyung held onto her with all the strength he could muster.
His father's eyes were hard but Taehyung could see the pain in them when he turned to him, hot tears rolling down his cheeks.
He hesitantly opened his arms for taehyung, and the omega was immediately against his chest.
He clung to him like a child, fear crawling up his spine when one of the guards cleared his throat loudly, evidently trying to rush him.
"Mother," he whispered brokenly when the woman hugged him one last time, unaware of when she would see her son again.
"We love you Taehyung, never forget that." She sniffled as Taehyung nodded his head furiously, gripping the bag his mother was handing him tightly.
He had just turned his head slightly when his mother was quickly pulling him back, and taehyung knew she was just trying to buy time with him.
"Baby here. Take this, it's yours." She was handing him back the rose she had previously snatched from his hands.
Taehyung quickly smiled and took it gratefully, happy he was taking something that his Yoongi hyung had given him.
"Thank you." He croaked out lowly, making sure to look anywhere but directly into the guards' eyes.
He knew he would be risking his life in doing so, not knowing what they would find offensive and disrespectful but it was better to be safe than sorry.
He stood a few feet away from them, body tense as he waited for them to lead the way, the bag with his belongings suddenly felt extremely heavy.
He had packed lightly, mainly sentimental items like a photo frame with his parents, a pretty heart shaped necklace his mother had given him a few years ago for his birthday, and a long white scarf he had knitted with his mother a few years back for the first time.

The carriage was fairly comfortable, the ride out of the village was surprisingly smooth as the sound of the horses' hooves hitting the pavement filled his ears.
The guards were leading the way, and Taehyung couldn't help but stare at his lap silently because he could hear the curious voices of the townspeople.
They were murmuring about him, whispering and talking amongst themselves about his predicament.
"I certainly hoped it was just a rumor."
"If anyone deserves to marry the prince, it's him!"
"The alpha prince doesn't deserve a slutty omega like him."
