Another short chapter, but I hope y'all enjoy!
For Christmas, Peyton had decided to make a feast for her friends. Of course, they'd invited her over and they had a wonderful time. They'd even gotten her a gift- a journal that they all signed in the back. She was happy to have the journal and, had too, gotten the boys a gift- a signed copy of her book (which they were all overjoyed for). Days later, Rupert invited the girl over for New Years Eve. Of course, she obliged and came with a yellow bunt cake, chocolate ganache dripping all over. So far, the party had been fun. Despite not drinking so much, she was having the time of her life. Her friends were there and she kept a smile on her face. Mr Wick, however, had been nervous- most of his mates were drunk and he feared one of them would let the cat out of the bag. Constantine, who was slightly buzzed, turned and gave a look to his friend."Nothing bad's about to happen," Constantine mumbled to his friend," You can stop babysitting everyone."
"But what if they slip up?" he whispered harshly," I can't risk it!"
"It's ten minutes to midnight, we'll be fine."
Mr Wick sighed and looked to the group. He watched as Shane and Jack singing about Christmas. Those not old enough to drink just sat around, trying to stay awake for another ten minutes. Ted already fell asleep, with Rupert leaning on Peyton. Harker was laying his head on her lap, mumbling about the ball being dropped. She gently rubbed his head, earning a soft murmur from the English man.
"I make a wish every year when the ball drops," he said softly," I've made wishes, but they never came true. I hope that I get my perfect wish. This year, I have a great wish but I don't know if it will come true."
"What is it, Hark?" she asked.
"Oh, I couldn't tell you," he said with a smile," but I do enjoy that nickname. It's beautiful."
The girl blushed and looked to the clock. Five minutes to midnight. She was ready for the ball to drop. She, too, had a wish. Peyton wished they would tell the truth about who they were. She knew the truth and knew that she wanted to know about them. They had to confess at some point. As it got to three minutes, Utah stumbled over and looked at the girl.
"You know," he said," we're a very interesting household."
"Utah."
"You wanna know what makes it cool?"
Mr Wick glared daggers at Utah. The boy simply looked to the ground. Down to two minutes. Utah stopped but Jack slid his way into the conversation, with a slight laugh.
"Aw, come on, John," he said," We can't keep pussy footin around this. Peyton, let me tell you who we are-"
"No!" Mr Wick shouted as he got close to Jack," Don't you dare say a word!"
"Why shouldn't we?" Constantine sprang up with a minute and a half left," Maybe it's only been a month but she deserves to know. I thought you would agree, Mr Wick."
"Listen here, you little shit," he answered," I am not telling her. I am not going to let her know that we're all just part of a wish. That none of us are real and that she's just a part of the wish. That she's a fictional character from whatever fuckin' movie Keanu starred in. This is all bullshit and I've given up on trying to find that eleventh member."
With 30 seconds left, everyone stood up, staring at one another. Mr Wick looked to Peyton. He had tears in his eyes as he apologized. Before he left, Peyton gently grabbed his jacket coat. He looked down at her, and saw a look in her eyes.
"I know you're fictional characters," she admitted.
With that, the ball dropped and the new year came. Ted and Rupert jumped out of their seats and cheered for the new year. Until they saw the solemn scene before them.
