Xie Bi'an and Fan Wujiu were a package deal. Soulmates, as some called it. Wherever one went, the other was always close behind.
Even when the lifeless body of Fan Wujiu had been found floating in the freezing water, Xie Bi'an was, ultimately, not far behind.
That's what he told himself as he stood on the wooden chair, tying the noose.
It was a mixture of guilt, regret, and deep sadness that ran through his veins.
I'll be with you soon, A-Jiu
-
Fan Wujiu continued yelling, though he knew it was useless.
"Please, stop! A-Bi'an, you can't, you can't!"
Tears ran down his face as he watched his beloved wrap a noose around the perfect, unmarked skin.
"I don't like this. Please! Please just stop" he choked out through his tears.
Xie Bi'an didn't stop. Instead, he reached over to the bedside table and grabbed the black umbrella. He looked over it solemnly before a tear ran down his cheek.
"I'm so sorry, A-Jiu"
"It wasn't your fault! There was nothing you could've done. Please!"
"I'm so sorry I let you down"
"No! I love you, please stop talking like this! Just put the rope away, please!"
"I'll do to myself what I did to you"
"You didn't do anything, A-Bi'an!"
"Maybe then, I can be forgiven"
"I'm sorry, I'm sorry for leaving! Don't, stop it..!"
Fan Wujiu was on his knees, barely keeping his eyes open to watch the inevitable. He didn't want to see it, of course he didn't, but he felt as if he had to. This was his punishment for leaving Bi'an all alone.
"I love you, A-Jiu"
With that, Xie Bi'an kicked the chair from underneath him. Fan Wujiu watched in horror as a disgusting crack! rang out through the room. His soulmate's body hung lifeless and pale in front of him. In his hand was the black umbrella; a reminder of the tragedy that caused this.
-
"A-Jiu?"
The now 'black guard' was in too much shock to process anything.
"A-Jiu!"
Wujiu finally turned his head, revealing a tear stained face. His eyes widened as he registered the man in front of him. He got up to embrace the man but was beat to it.
Warm arms wrapped around him to create a familiar feeling."I'm sorry, A-Bi'an, I'm so sorry" he managed through sobs. The white guard looked confused.
"What..? What do you mean? I'm the one who-"
"No! I left you all alone and you... you hung yourself, A-Bi'an" he said, nearly choking on the last part.
Xie Bi'an shook his head stubbornly.
"You didn't do anything wrong. I just... I couldn't live like that, A-Jiu. Please forgive me. Please forgive me for causing you to suffer" he whispered, leaning his head on the other's shoulder. Fan Wujiu wrapped his arms tightly around his soulmate. He petted the soft hair as if Xie Bi'an were a frightened animal.
"There's nothing to forgive, because neither of us did anything wrong. I'm here, A-Bi'an, and I'm never leaving again"
Tears soaked through Wujiu's clothing.
"I love you"
He smiled and kissed the other man's head.
"I love you too. More than anything"
