mackenzie stared at the door of the elevator, watching the floor level drop from 26 to L.

she heard a ding sound implying that she had reached the lobby of the hotel, as she walked out of the elevator with a bounce in her step.

she strutted around the lobby in the direction of her mothers office greeting all the staff members with a wave and a smile.

"morning mom" she giggled grabbing a banana off her desk and sitting down across from melissa, her mother

"good morning kenzie" melissa replied looking up from her computer with a warm smile "you sleep ok?"

"great actually"

"fantastic now you know that these next few months are going to be very busy around the hotel because we have families coming from all over the world to stay here for the summer yes?" mackenzie nodded slowly knowing that yet another one of her summers was going to be consumed by helping her family run the hotel.

she loved the place, it was her home, but sometimes she wishes she could live the summer of a normal teen. while all of her friends were going to the beach and making memories, she was at the hotel helping pick up towels or rubbing sunscreen on littles kids faces.

of course her friends visited but only for a couple hours at a time and then it was back to work for mackenzie. but over the years, she had gotten used to it. she grew up in the hotel and it's the only home she has known. for as long as she could remember her parents and sister maddie put all their time and effort into making the hotel amazing.

and their hard work payed off. the hotel d'angleterre was voted the #1 hotel in america for thirteen years in a row.

they had something for everyone. for the kids there was a pool both inside and out along with a hot tub, vintage style arcade, movie theater, and storage centers full of all the candy and junk you could eat.

as for the adults, their needs were satisfied in saunas, exquisite boufetts full of food shipped from all over the world, a spa, a large gym with dozens of televisions, and lastly a masseuse.

"hello mackenzie" the girl was shaken out of her thoughts by her mother snapping her fingers

"sorry what?"

"i was telling you about the new family that is checking in today, the orlando's. they have two kids both your age so you never know, maybe you'll make a friend or two." melissa says smiling largely

"yea maybe.." mackenzie says her voice trailing off. the odds of that happening were very low

but never zero

"come in" melissa says in response to a knock that was previously heard outside of her office

"hey mom" maddie says smiling and poking her head inside the office "they're here"

"oh great! come on kenz, good first impressions mean good reviews. and good reviews mean-" "getting the #1 spot yea yea i know mom i've been hearing it for eighteen years" mackenzie says cutting off her mom with a smile

"right ok, uh let's get a move on" melissa replies plastering a huge fake smile on her face, dusting off her skirt with her hand, and walking out of the office with kenzie following her suit.

"hello and welcome to hotel d'angleterre my name is melissa gisoni and i am the owner and founder. we are all so thrilled that you have chosen to spend your summer here and we will make it our priority to assure that your stay is remarkable. these are my two girls maddie and mackenzie they stay on the top floor and are here if you need anything as well." melissa smiles showing off her daughters

the two girls graciously smile largely as they have been taught to for years.

"wow this place surely is amazing! i'm meredith but you can call me mer, and these are my two kids johnny and lauren" a lady says looking up and down, taking in the amazing features of the hotel

"hi my name is lauren!" an outgoing and bubbly strawberry blonde says extending her hand to shake

the sisters and their mom both accept with a smile, expect this smile wasn't fake like the others, this smile was real

maybe we actually will become friends. mackenzie thought

"mhm" the boy clears his throat causing everyone to avert their attention to him "i'm johnny it's a pleasure to meet y'all"

"wow meredith your kids have such great manners!" melissa coos shaking his hand

once she has let go of his grip, maddie takes his hand shaking it and smiling

then lastly it's mackenzies turn

she extends her hand and looks into his eyes for the first time

he was beautiful with piercing green eyes, floppy dirty blonde hair, the most gorgeous eyebrows that every girl with eyes would be jealous of, and a huge adorable smile

she stared at him for a few seconds but quickly averted her gaze to their handshake

johnny however, stayed looking at her. to him, she was one of the most beautiful girls he had ever seen

"uh i" he clears his throat again after realizing he was staring for just a little bit too long "where are our rooms?" he asks cracking a smile in attempts to change the subject

"oh im glad you asked!" melissa claps happily "so your parents will be on the second floor" she says handing them two key cards

"and you two" she says looking back at the orlando kids "have a room on floor 26 just a couple doors over from mackenzies room"
