{Ried}

I let out a heavy sigh and slumped against the back wall of the elevator, clutching the strap of my satchel tightly. My eyes fluttered closed and I listened to the lift as it climbed closer and closer to my floor.

My head is freaking killing me.

I didn't sleep very well last night and I honestly feel like crap today.

A ding signaled that I've reached my destination and I opened my eyes, pushing myself off the wall as the doors slid open. I looked over to see that my friends were once again crowded around my desk but, being too tired to deal with the situation, I turned and walked to the coffee station instead.

As I groggily poured my drink, I heard the sound of footsteps approaching and did my best to ignore them.

"Hey kid." Morgan greeted me, sounding oddly amused.

"Hey." I replied curtly, passing him the coffee pitcher and reaching for the sugar.

"Oh you're not gonna need this after you see what's on your desk!" He laughed, snatching the container out of my reach.

I stared at him tiredly, blinking as my vision blurred from lack of sleep. What's his problem? Can't he see how badly I need the caffeine this morning?

"Yes I do, now give me the sugar." I demanded, annoyed.

"Damn boy, what's got you in such a bad mood?" He asked, handing me the sugar.

"I'm tired." I grumbled, pouring a good bit of sugar into my drink to avoid the awful bitter taste.

"Your admirer left you a little something again." He commented, taking a sip of his own drink.

"Great." I answered shortly, as I took a large gulp of my coffee.

"You gonna be okay?" He asked as I glowered into the distance, wishing I'd just stayed home and slept.

"I'm fine." I snapped, walking away quickly to my desk in an irritated state.

Emily, JJ, and Garcia crowded around my desk yet again. Garcia stared at something intently, poking it with the end of her fuzzy ended pink pen. Emily tried to stifle a laugh at her antics and JJ spotted me walking over first, offering me a kind smile.

"Oh Ried, come here." She said in a motherly tone, as if I was some helpless child.

"What's wrong?" I asked, confused as I walked to stand right in front of her.

She silently answered my question by undoing my haphazardly thrown together tie. I didn't bother questioning her unusual antics and took a sip of my coffee as she retied it perfectly, adjusting my shirt collar and straightening my vest.

I swear, sometimes she acts more like a mother than a friend.

"You got another gift." Garcia said, having had her fix of poking around my things.

"Thanks." I said, stepping around her and Emily to get to my seat.

On my desk sat a red heart shaped box attached to a white and grey doily patterned base, a white ribbon decorated the top of the box with gold lettering displaying the company's name.

I stared at the box in confusion.

"Go on, open it!" Garcia encouraged me loudly, practically radiating with excitement. The other two peered at it curiously over our shoulders.

"Alright, alright. I'm doing it!" I laughed as she buzzed with her usual energy and anticipation.

I gently lifted the lid, revealing an assortment of chocolate covered strawberries. They alternated between white and what I can only assume is milk chocolate with a delicate drizzle of the contrasting color on each. Some were covered up to the leaves and others had the top just barely showing.

How did he know I like strawberries?

"Well thank you secret admirer!" Morgan laughed, snatching a strawberry before I had time to react.

I watched as he bit into the juicy fruit, still grinning devilishly from his stolen snack, showing off his perfectly straight white teeth. A dribble of the juice dripped down his chin, sliding across the bronzy skin and thin dark facial hair. He sucked it up, his perfect teeth scraping down on his lower lip to get the last of it.

I felt a heat rise to my cheeks at the unnecessary detail I paid to watching my friend eating fruit.

"Derek!" Emily scolded, sounding somewhat amused. And it turned out to be a ruse to steal one for herself.

"I want one now!" She exclaimed, snaking around me to grab one of the sweet treats.

"Ditto!" Garcia said, grabbing one for herself.

"Well, I don't mind if I do." JJ said, sneaking a white one from right under my nose.

I stared at me friends, still shell-shocked.

"Guys!" I yelled in protest, swiftly securing the lid back on before they could steal any more of my strawberries.

"Aw what's wrong kid? Don't wanna share with your friends?" Morgan teased, twirling the end of his between his fingers as he leaned against the side of my desk.

"No! None of you even asked!" I argued quickly in my defense.

"Don't be so mean Ried. C'mon, live a little." Emily teased, reaching for the box but I moved it out of her reach.

Shortly after that, they left me to go tend to their own duties and I tucked the sweets into my drawer but not before having one for myself. I sunk my teeth into the treat, immediately being bombarded with an unbridled sweetness that sent a rush of sugar to my brain. I smiled to myself softly before tossing he uneaten leaves to the small waste bin beside my desk.

After I'd put away the gift, I noticed a red envelope was hidden underneath. On the front my name was written in the same beautiful cursive handwriting in white ink this go around, standing out just as vibrant against the paper. Inside was another sheet of heavy off white parchment paper, in the same elegant cursive lettering.

I tucked my legs under me while I read, lifting myself higher in my chair and scanning the page quickly while using my finger to keep my place.

My love,

I'm glad you liked the flowers I got you. I decided to get you something a little different today, seeing as I know about your little sweet tooth. I hope you like them. I wish I was able to feed them to you myself but I don't have the courage to come up to you in person just yet. So for now, this will have to do.

Love, your soulmate.

I stared at the letter for a minute, conflicted.

I truly did enjoy the gift but I don't know how to feel about the letter. He signed it differently this time and even mentioned wanting to feed me which was admittedly quite strange. He also mentioned lacking the confidence to approach me which is also pretty odd.

I'm not really someone that's difficult to approach. In fact, I feel like I'm one of the least threatening people on my team besides maybe Garcia or JJ on a good day. I don't really get why someone would be afraid to approach me of all people.

It just doesn't make any sense.

A/N: Don't worry, the next chapter will actually be the team going on a case! XD
