A crimson eyed, brown afro haired, flat-nosed, full-lipped, boy with stubble wondered through the hallway looking for his locker. First day back to college after a little detour from his life. The detour being his daughter he loved but didn't expect at all.
"Magnar? Is that you?" His old friend called out to him nearing to Manson.
"Yep." Magnar hadn't looked up but finished unlocking his lock to get his books.
"I haven't seen you in quite a bit!"Magnar finally looked up to see his friend Lucas, "Neither have I."
"It feels unreal, I'm almost done with college and graduating while your still a newbie in his first year."
"I know. Finally was old enough to drink and go to parties with no curfew and that happened."
The bell rung and Magnar waved bye to Lucas before opening the door of his first period which was right next to his locker. Magnar shuffled to the back of the room in a seat in the corner. Everyone seemed to be staring at him for no reason, then murmurs as a volcano erupted in the previously quiet room. Magnar shook his head before the teacher adjusted the brightness of the projector and silenced the room once again.
The day progressed and the attention drawn to Magnar grew. Although Magnar wasn't the only one in the spotlight, there was another guy named Ben. Ben had ginger hair with curtain bangs, a small sharp nose, thin oval lips, and storm cloud gray eyes. Ben wore black jeans and a spice brown sweater that reached his knees and sleeves that hid his hands while Magnar wore denim jeans, timberlands, and a white T-shirt above a black full sleeve.
Magnar had been seated next to Ben in every class of the day but never spoke.
Magnar had finished the last period and was on his way home. So was Ben. Magnar kept a speedy and uniform pace, Ben, however, speed up when he saw a car but slowed down near a lamp or corner store. They had been on the same route home. Magnar got into his apartment building and dialed the pin. Ben heaved the door open and reached in his pocket for a piece of paper containing the code and dialed. Magnar trudged up the stairs and Ben took the elevator.
Magnar was relieved when he took the stairs he regarded Ben behind him for a bit. Magnar finally reached the top floor and was alarmed when Ben appeared out of the elevator next to him.
fr"Hey?" Ben noticed Magnar's panic.
"Hey," trying to play it off Magnar awkwardly went for a handshake, "I'm Magnar. You go to my college right?"
"I think so, I've only gotten to see the back of your head in school."
Magnar spun around, " recognize me?"
Ben smiled and responded, "Now I do. Everyone had been staring at you in the hallway."
"They were staring at you too."
"Really? I didn't notice that." Ben spoke genuinely and even an ill-tempered person like Magnar could tell that, "Where are my manners! I'm Ben." Ben shook the hand which was still outstretched.
"Well, it was nice meeting you Ben I have to get back home to my daughter."
"Daughter, oh my! I love children, they're just so cute and tiny."
Magnar smiled, "You'll have to come over sometime. I live in 224a, how about you?"
"I live in 225b." Ben started walking to his apartment and Magnar walked alongside him. "I'd love to come over sometime if that's okay with your partner."
Magnar laughed at the thought of Isabell, "I don't have one."
Magnar and Isabellwere still close and kept in touch for the once a month drop off and pick up of their daughter. Isabell was an interesting woman but Magnar lost his interest in her a long time before.
Ben gasped, "That must be so rough! Call me if you ever need help."
Magnar's apartment was across from Ben's, Magnar went to his door and unlocked it before saying he would call and see Ben tomorrow.
