Chapter One

2 1 1

I wandered through the waterfront, the familiar shacks and hovels casting pitch black shadows in the fading sunlight. The streets that had seemed so worn and empty during the day where now brimming with pirates and thieves going about their business. I passed through the sea of bodies trying my hardest to avoid gathering attention. I soon arrived at my destination, a well worn wooden building next to the cemetery. Before I could even push open the door two pirates burst through it their angry words and blades cutting through the humid Second Seed air. I snuck in behind them and took my seat at the bar.
"Well now, what brings you to my humble establishment (y/n)?" Drawled the barkeep as she polished the glass she held.
"Nothing much Amara, just needed a couple swigs of mead after a long day's work is all." I placed a few coins on the counter.
"All honest I presume," she said with a wink as she grabbed a bottle "although I heard our noble Capitan of the Guard has been having a run of bad luck. With that shipment of silver missing and the Bank of Cyrodil being robbed in under a month and all, he is starting to look pretty bad to his superiors."
I laughed softly as she handed me a bottle of mead.
"He isn't too bright, but I'm not complaining. Makes my life easier. I should have enough to retire soon, maybe even move to Chorrol or Skingrad."
Amara sighed and looked me in the eyes "I worry about you, you know? I've always kept an ear out for you ever since you got out of prison. I know you are the best at what you do, but maybe its time you get an honest job. Your luck won't last forever and when it runs out-"
"Amara, please I'll be fine. Especially when I have you looking out for me."
"Lex is going to wise up to you one of these days then it wont be just a stint in prison. You will be at the end of a rope."
"And if that day comes I will find a way to escape Amara, I always do."
She looked down and whispered "I just hope you are right, you're like family to me. I don't want you to get hurt or worse."
I gave Amara a small hug and walked out into the damp night air. I looked up to the stars and smiled happily. I stood there in silence for a few minutes before something hard hit my back causing me and whatever was behind me to fall forwards.
"Ouch." I groaned, "I'm gonna feel that in the morning."
"I'm so sorry, I wasn't looking where I- wait a minute. Don't I know you?" Said the person on top of me.
After they rolled off I sat up slowly taking a moment to see who I was speaking to. He had light brown hair and tan skin making his blue eyes stand out. His white imperial armor seemed to glow softly in the faint light from the stars. He was kind of handsome for a guard
"I don't think so." I said slowly trying to talk my way out of this "I just have one of those faces."
He looked up and stared at my face "Are you sure, you look so familiar." Recognition flashed in his eyes and his face slowly transformed into a mask of anger. "Thief." He snarled and grabbed my wrist hard, standing and dragging me to my feet "You are under arrest (y/n) and you wont escape this time."
My eyes widened and I tried to break free, but it was no use. I was pulled through the empty dark streets of the Imperial City until we both stood in the prison. He didn't even bother waking the jailer, he just snatched the key off the table and stormed down the stairs to the left. I stumbled along behind him down the slippery stairs. We came to a stop in front of an empty cell,  he unlocked the door and threw me in. I sighed and layed down on the bed of straw in the cell. I closed my eyes and let the world fade around me as I fell asleep.
