No Wonder

CHAPTER: 1 Today my Confinement Starts

"RYAN!", I yelled as a ran as fast as I could so I could catch my bus."RYAN, Hurry we'll be late! All the good apartments will be gone!" " Oh come on Thalia. It's not like our lives are going to get any better.", Ryan replied. I stared at him in awe, even though he did this all the time. The Leaders of our Sectors forbid us from saying anything about our lives that would insult the city. But that's just what we have to deal with everyday in Deliria.

I hopped on the bus and put my backpack in the seat next to me for Ryan. As I pulled out my book, out of the corner of my eye, I could see Ryan staggering onto the bus, almost falling on an old lady. I chuckled uncontrollably until he sat down. " So", he asked, with that michevious look in his eye,"What lies are we going to come up with for... You know." I knew exactly what he was talking about. Every year, when you turn 16, you have to move out of your parents apartments. Only 1 or 2 people per apartment. We both have been really good friends, well, as good as friends get in Deliria. Ryan and I really want to live together so we're coming up with lies so we can live together." I think we should go for the couple one. It's more believable that way.", I suggested." Ok", he said," We do look more like siblings, but yours is good too." It was true. When we were really little, we looked like twins, with the same green eyes, freckles and black hair.

As we waited on the bus, small chatter could be heard from all around us. Most people did that when we were around, mostly because of Ryan's looks. All girls at school wished for a chance with him, even some people on the bus asked him out. Everyone makes fun of him for hanging out with me, of all people. I'm pretty popular at school, but not for looks or brains. Just for my crazy stunts.

The bus driver slammed on the brakes and lots of people went in and out. Ryan and I raced each other to the Capitol Building, where all ceremonies were held. When we got there, we each received an envelope filled with $5,000. I told the the Leaders that Ryan and I were a couple and wanted to live together. They murmured a few things to each other, then turned to us and nodded in agreement. The next security guard put our money together. Then, we filed into the lobby of the Capitol Building, making our way to our seats.

During the Ceremony, Leaders showed us slides of the insides of the apartments. Then, one of the apartments caught my eye, and I saw Ryan liked it too. It had 4 rooms. One bedroom with a Queen sized bed, a small kitchen with marble counters and black walls, a living room with a small gray couch and 2 black recliners, and a small bathroom.
I knew we had to have it. Ryan and I looked at each other and knew what each other was thinking. We both raised our hands and yelled in unison" $5,000!""GOING ONCE! GOING TWICE...!", one of the Leaders yelled. My hands were shaking. Could we get it?!" SOLD TO THE LOVELY COUPLE OVER THERE!!!

Ryan and I were so happy. We had a great apartment and we were living to together. What could possibly go wrong?, I thought.

I had no idea what an adventure we were about to go on.
