Amira stumbled through the forest, her feet swollen with cold. "Hurry up Amira." She looked up, her pale green eyes begging for a rest. Grudgingly, Amira trudged over the branches and crisp, autumnal leafs. Howls of wolves in the distance made her continue, fearing a fate of their jaws wrapping around her slender body. Being eaten alive was a common death when you lived in the forest.

"This will do for tonight, tomorrow we will continue our journey to the lake island." Grunted her father, Lucas. "Tell me about the island again, father." Amira begged, though her eyes were very heavy she pleaded to hear the story. "Ok, ok." Lucas wrapped his daughter in their only blanket and stroked her forehead.

"When your mother and I were young, only about two years older than yourself, we wanted to escape our camp for just a single night. We ended up walking for the whole night, then the whole morning after. We were very far from our grounds. Finally, we saw it. Shimmers of diamonds reflected off of the clear surface of the grand lake. Oh, Amira, it was beautiful. In the centre there was an island which was coated in tall pine trees and had a border of fruit bushes. I promised we would live there one day. Sadly, three years later she was murdered by the former leader of the darks. He was the one who banished you and I. Grave was his name. Many graves he would go on to fill... Anyway, sleep now my dear."

The sunset was over, casting nothing but a pale glow upon the shadowed earth.
