The forgotten Potter

3rd person POV

Severus Snape worryingly opened the door to the Potters' home.

He walked up the stairs, the sound of a crying baby ringing throughout the quiet night.

He peered into the open doorway, tears filling his eyes instantly as he saw the one girl he had ever loved lying limply on the floor of the nursery, her pregnant belly hardly visible as the little girl wasn't supposed to arrive for 4 more months. Severus kneeled and held his true love and let out a sob. He lied there for a while before he felt something shake her, he put his hand on her stomach and felt her shake again. The baby was alive! It was kicking! The killing curse was instant but it must be targeted, Voldemort had not targeted the baby, therefore it was unaffected. He apparated to St.Mungos immediately.

The healers rushes over to the limp body in Snape's arms. "I'm sorry sir, she's already gone" Severus let out another sob "No! She's pregnant! The baby! You have to save the baby!" He screamed through the silent hospital. The healers took Lily's body and rushed into the O.R., Shouting commands at each other.

Severus sat in the waiting room for 57 hours before they allowed him to see the premature fetus. At only 20 weeks she was only about 10 inches long (roughly the length of a banana) and frighteningly skinny, she was covered in surgery scars and had wires and tubes everywhere, but she was breathing and that was enough for Severus. "Mable Lily Evans" he whispered under his breath before the healers continued helping the baby.

It was 5 more months before Mable was stable enough to leave St.Mungos. Very few had known Lily was pregnant and they all assumed the fetus had died that night when Lily did, so there was no publicity when Severus Snape had adopted an orphan baby. He took her home to a small cabin on a hill just outside London. Mable had since had 27 surgeries and countless visits to St.Mungos. He raised Mable as his own, and took up a teaching job at Hogwarts to make enough money for all her medical needs. He left her in the care of the Malfoys when he had to go for the school year, but always came back as often as he could.
