Karkat didn't like physical touching, it made his skin crawl and and caused an uneasy feeling to settle over him. It's not that he hated the others, he just had an invisible boundary line, a personal bubble so to speak, where he refused to let the other trolls (and those inferior human kids) to cross. It was shelter against them, a barrier that he gladly kept to himself, hissing whenever his friends invaded the bubble.
But yet, here sat Gamzee, the troll with the lazy look, painted on clown makeup, and polka dot pants, with his shoulder almost touching Karkat's. For the first time, thd tiny troll noticed, he wasn't insinuating for Gamzee to scoot over or to stay at least an elbow's distance. No, he wasn't saying anything at all while the clown watched the t.v program that he had switched on.
Karkat began to feel his palms get sweaty, and he jerked his head in the opposite direction from Gamzee to avoid staring at him. A while back Karkat had began to get closer to Gamzee, spending more free time with the chill clown, and getting to know him on a very close friend basis. That's all it was. Friends. Something that Gamzee said often.
Staring at the carpet, the smaller troll felt his shoulders sag slightly. Gamzee didn't know, how could he? A few months of consistently hanging out with the taller troll Karkat's stomach began to flip when Gamzee would sling an arm around Karkat's little shoulders with a greeting. Or how whenever Gamzee would smile, and i mean a truly genuine Gamzee grin, it caused Karkat's heart to flutter ever so slightly. Or when Gamzee would fling himself back onto Karkat's bed, kicking off his shoes and demanding for his best friend to pass the remote, how Karkat desired to barely brush his lips against Gamzee's, just for a few seconds, only to see how soft the taller troll's mouth would be.
Glancing at Gamzee, Karkat's stomach fluttered pleasantly. His shirt had hitched up ever so slightly, showing Gamzee's gray hips that were at one point hidden under the black fabric. Then, Karkat's eyes widened when his best friend sat up from the bed, and before he stood Karkat felt the brush of Gamzee's fingers over hiz own. Hd instantly wanted more. But instead the clown streched, smiling slightly at the surprised looking cancer sign, and said he needed to use the restroom. As the bedroom door shut, Karkat instantly dropped his head into his hands, the heels digging into his eyes. He couldn't tell Gamzee, he decided. It wasn't fair to Gamzee for Karkat to suddenly spill how much he wished to have the clown to himself in the greedist way.
No, he wanted Gamzee to feel comfortable and to continuing calling Karkat friend. So, in the meantime, the cancer sign decided that his feelings for the clown will be pushed aside because even if Gamzee felt the same, Karkat knew it probably wouldn't last for very long. He would much rather continuing daydreaming about him, never to have the clown to himself then to eventually not have him at all. Yes, Karkat decided, being just friends would probably be okay right now.
