On the website animals.org/reasons.him, under the title Christian Beliefs, Rene Descartes' ideas were based on the Christian view that there is an impenetrable divide between humans and other animals, because humans have a soul, feelings and are conscious but other animals do not. The bible doesn't say much about animal welfare, despite centuries of moral rules and regulations, there does not appear to have been a single Pope or bishop who has spoken up against animal cruelty, let alone done anything concrete to help prevent it. This to me is very disgusting and horrible because if God is all loving why would he allow animals to suffer? If God really was all loving wouldn't he prevent animal cruelty. If he can prevent people from suffering what's stopping him from helping animals that help us? I think that people believe different things from others religion or no religion but does hurting animals that have done nothing wrong really solve anything?
