Sun rays streamed through the small parting in the curtains. From beneath the sheets, Lithuania turned to face the new day. Not quite wanting to leave the comfort of the bed, he laid there, basking in the warmth of the light. He had almost drifted back to sleep when there was a knock at the door. He bolted upright, the time of day dawning on him. "C-Come in!" he called as he threw off the covers. In walked America; Lithuania's boss. "I'm so sorry Mr. America. I got distracted. I will put on your coffee right now!"

"Woah, chill dude," America said, walking over to the startled nation, "it's fine. I get distracted all the time. Oh here." America held out a mug to Lithuania, a huge smile gracing his lips. "Coffee. Two sugars as you like it."

"W-Wow, thank you. What is this for?"

"Really? You forgot your own birthday?" Lithuania tilted his head slightly, taking the coffee.

     "Already. Huh?"

     "Ah Yeah. February 16th!"

"Still. It doesn't matter. Just another day. What do you want for breakfast?" Lithuania stated, brushing by America. He was stopped by a hand grabbing his wrist. His breath hitched and he froze. Realizing his action, America immediately dropped his hand.

"Shoot. I'm sorry." Lithuania took a deep breath and managed to regain his composure and shook his head in reply. America pressed on, "I want you to relax for once dude. You do so much for me. Like, I can't function without you and I want to thank you for everything you do."

Lithuania had no idea what to think. What to do. What to say. Nobody ever thanked him or ever gave him a break. He always was doing things for others and nothing for himself. He turned to face America, but kept his gaze at his feet. "Thank you for the kind words Mr. America and your offer. I just don't know how to accept this kind of thing."

"Oh come on Lithuania! It's your birthday and you need a break! We can spend the day together. We can go on a walk, watch a movie, cook, dance. Whatever you want!" America explained, hands waving everywhere.

Lithuania let out a chuckle, "Okay, if it makes you happy."

America pouted, "hey don't do it for me. Do it for you!"

"Okay, okay! How about we get some breakfast?"

"Oh yeah! How about we go out? There is this new restaurant that opened in town. My treat!"

And with that, America left to get ready and Lithuania was left alone with his coffee.

_________

Once Lithuania was ready, the two made their way to town. The car ride was fairly silent as Lithuania stared wide eyed out the window. America kept stealing glances at his passenger, a grin spreading on his face. 'Gosh, he can be so damn cute,' he thought.

"I never get tired of the city sights," Lithuania finally said. America nodded in agreement, even though seeing these buildings of brick and stone daily made them lose their charm. Lithuania always made these sights better though.

They made it to the restaurant 15 minutes later. Lithuania went to open the door of the car, but America told him he'd get it. Lithuania thought it was a weird request, but he shrugged it off as a cultural difference. The two made their way inside and to a booth. They enjoyed a breakfast of eggs and toast with orange juice. "They make their bread fresh everyday," America explained, but Lithuania was too busy digging into his food to reply. He had never had such a nice meal. America suggested having to come back here sometime for dinner. The two enjoyed the rest of their meal, discussing small things such as the latest music and movies.

They soon finished their meal and were off again. "So, what do you want to do now?" America asked. Lithuania shrugged.

"Perhaps a walk around town," he finally suggested. America's eyes lit up at the idea.

"Of course dude! I'll show you the greatest sights!"

The two spent the rest of the morning and part of the afternoon strolling around the city and looking at all the shops. Their final store was small bookshop around the corner from the restaurant they had gone to that morning. If it were anyone else, America would have ignored the place entirely. He wasn't a reader (unless Lithuania was reading to him) and found books boring, but seeing Lithuania get excited made it a for sure stop on this tour.

"You can choose any book you want. It's my birthday gift to you," America said.

"Oh no Mr. America. You already bought me breakfast. That is more than en-"

"No arguing. This is happening." And with that, Lithuania reluctantly went searching for a new book.

Two made their way home once Lithuania managed to find a book. It was one with a nice illustration of a rabbit on it. It was a children's book titled The Velveteen Rabbit. England had once spoken about it to America, but America didn't really pay attention to that conversation (he hardly listened to England at all nowadays). Now he kind of wished he did. Lithuania told him how he saw a copy at England's house before he came to The U.S.

After they finished at the bookstore, the two returned to the car and headed home. Lithuania was much more chatty, telling America about how good breakfast was, how he enjoyed the "tour" America gave him and how he couldn't wait to get home and read the new book. America just smiled and nodded, glad that Lithuania was opening up more.

____________

When the two arrived home, they prepared a simple lunch of sandwiches. Following lunch, they settled down in the living room where Lithuania began reading his new book to America. It was very peaceful, just as Lithuania liked it. America also enjoyed these times. He found he just loved being around Lithuania in general. At some point America had wrapped his arm around Lithuania, although the latter was too into his book to really notice.

As the book was nearing the end, America began to lean in a little closer, eventually resting his head on Lithuania's shoulder. Lithuania's face grew hot at the action. "Is this okay?" America asked, looking up at Lithuania. Lithuania only nodded as he moved his face further into the cream coloured pages. His heart was beating fast as he tried to refocus on the book. Eventually he was able to, and by the time the book finished, America had fallen asleep. Lithuania could help but giggle at the sight as he took off America's glasses and placed them on the coffee table in front of them. He thought about possibly laying his head ontop of America, but couldn't find the confidence. He was content just being like this with America, in this house, far away from all his past worries.
