Chapter 1

I was listening to my fifth favorite band. Insanity. They were good. I mean they could be better… It was just a band of five guys that were sixteen and seventeen.  Tyler Ryan Shane Will and Anthony were the names of the guys. My whole school well the girls are fantasizing about them. I get asked about one of the band members a lot. My friends always nag me to go to a concert but you know it’s a little hard. I finally agreed to go to one in two weeks. Which the whole tenth grade is fantasizing about. I was an only child and my dad only came home eight times a year. It was something about keeping us in a house. I knew he loved me but you know eight times. Really dad? Then for my eleventh birthday he gave me a glass heart and I loved it. I brought it everywhere. My dad was everything to me. We were best friends. But three months after that birthday he was killed. I cried for two weeks straight. My best friend Amanda was there for me and we listened to Insanity together she is one of their biggest fans. Literally, it was sad. I heard the door bell ring and went downstairs. “Hey Amanda” I said stepping aside so she could come in. “Hey Lee, so we need to get the first order of business. What are we going to wear to the concert?” She squealed. Oh goodness. This is going to be very long. We went up to my room. “OK so I was thinking about you wearing neon hot pink and I’ll wear this awesome purple.” She went to my closet and started digging through it. Her eyes widened. “No way! How did you get this shirt already!?” She yelled as she through my Insanity T-shirt at me. It was black with pink letters saying Insanity. I shrugged. “My dad has connections.” I said simply. “Can he get us backstage passes?!” She said almost bursting out of her shoes. I was about to say I don’t know but her phone rang first. “Oh my gosh! There new music video came out!” Amanda jumped on my bed and I let out a sigh and sat down next to her. She pressed play and I watched tapping my foot to the beat. It ‘stared’ Shane the bad boy of the band. He had Short brown hair, with brown eyes that would melt any girl’s heart, strangely not mine. He always wore jeans with a single chain around them with some holes. He wore black men’s tank tops to show off his muscles with sometimes a leather jacket. He was normal in height but was pretty built. His skin was tan and his voice was mesmerizing and mysterious as Amanda likes to say. I watched and Amanda was singing along. “I’ll love you in the black of time and the light of the future. On one condition, I get you. Come with me and let’s see how far as we’ll go…” I didn’t like that’s part but apparently Amanda did. “Join the Insanity with me…” He said in a whisper/raspy voice when the lights dimmed. The band joined in then and Ryan (Amanda’s favorite) Started singing she was dancing in her seat. “I’ll get to date him. I promise.” She said. I rolled my eyes at her. Whatever, as if we will get within ten feet of him. Then a video popped up next. It showed Shane being almost shoved against the wall by security. He was looking threatened and a little crazy if you ask me. I held my breath some other people came up to him and punched him in the gut. He doubled over and I gasped. He got up and saw the cameras. “Don’t take it! Punch the jerk!”  I said. I blushed when Amanda raised her eyes at me. Shane ended up punching the guy and I cheered for him. After that fight a reporter came on. “That was Shane from Insanity apparently fighting on the street after saying his goodbyes to the group. His opponent told us that he had stolen his girlfriend but Shane had no comment. He was last seen outside of his record company with the band. Back to you” She said with a smile on her face. I took the phone and threw it. “My phone!” Amanda shrieked. It scared me so badly that I fell on the ground and winced at my obviously twisted ankle. Amanda ran to her phone and left me there. “Oh sorry” She said helping me up. I rolled me eyes. “Whatever.”

I was at school when my mom came and got me in the middle of the day for no reason. I hope she knows that I was in the middle of lunch. “We need to go.” She said. This confused me. What was she talking about? “Mom, what’s going on?” She didn’t answer. I just sighed and kept going. We went to a weird building and I was told to stay put. I don’t ever do what I’m told. Well at least not stay put. When my mom was out of sight I hopped up and walked around. The inside of the strange building was really nice. It had marble floors. Gold pillars which were not real. Real plants. I walked over to the reception desk and the lady looked down on me, which is weird because I am easily taller than her. I am 5’10 and she looked 5’2. “May I help you?” She asked in a non friendly way. “Which floor is my mom on? Her name is Janice Hill.” The lady seemed to perk up a bit. “Is that what you really look like?” She asked me. I had to think. Why would she ask a stupid question like that? I looked at her and decided to have some fun. “Nope I have blond hair, blue eyes and I’m three inches shorter.” I told her which complete opposite of me is. I actually have dark brown hair, hazel eyes, and the height I am now. Apparently this lady is very dumb. “Oh well your mom is on the third floor. I don’t think we allow any others on that floor besides her. I’m sorry.” She said with a fake smile. I rolled my eyes and heard her pick up the phone. “Yes, um I’d like to report that Hill’s has a…” I couldn’t hear anything else beside that. I waited for twenty more long minutes. All of a sudden people were outside screaming with signs saying ‘We Love you Shane!’ on it. “What?” I muttered. I had to laugh when I saw Amanda. My mom finally emerged and then she looked at me with wide eyes and pointed to the doors. I smiled and shrugged. “Um mom? Why did you come here…and why did you drag me here?” She smiled. “I thought we could have a mother daughter day. Ok even though mother daughter days are for preteens I still like my mom paying for my stuff at stores. After she told something to the receptionist we walked to the doors. I pushed them open and was immediately swarmed with girls. “Did you see him?!” “What was he wearing?” Different stuff was asked. “He’s not in there!” I screamed at them. “Get a life.” I told them all under my breath. My mom and I went the mall and I got some tops and a neon purple Insanity T-shirt for Amanda. I was walking out of the store when I heard more screaming girls. A guy bumped into me and I noticed him. “Hey aren’t you Will from Insanity?” He nodded dully and looked at me with suspicion. “Do I know you?” He asked with a face that said I’m dying to figure out who you are.  “Well you just said who you were like five seconds ago so… yeah I guess you have.” I said sweetly. I wanted to see him annoyed. It worked. Will rolled his eyes slightly and smiled again. “Nice seeing you.” He said to me nicely with a fan smile. I’m not really a fan but oh well.  I went to a couple more stores then went home. Amanda was ringing my door bell in less than five minutes. “How did you get in that building?!” She asked me inviting herself in.  I didn’t want to go there right now. “Guess who I met at the mall?” I said. She thought for a second. “Got me.” She said.  “I met Will from insanity!” I squealed. Her eyes went wide. “No way! How?” She asked almost tackling me. “He kind of just bumped into me.” I said as I pulled out the Insanity purple shirt. I managed to get my mom to ask him if he could sign it. “Ohmygosh.” She said. I smiled. “This will be the best concert ever!” She squealed. The week went by with nothing out of the ordinary. My door bell rang then. Amanda was wearing skinny jeans and a black tank top. “Put this on and let’s go!” She said. I knew better than to argue. I went upstairs and pulled on the one shoulder black shirt and some white short shorts. I went downstairs and Amanda was waiting. “Well let’s go!” I stopped her “Where are we going?” I asked. She smiled. “It’s a surprise.” We ended up going to a barn with blinking lights and pumping music. “It’s so cool, everyone’s here!” She said. It was a vacant farm. It had a field in the background and totally abandoned. I smiled and walked forward when I fell behind Amanda. When we walked in everyone was dancing and all of my friends were there. “Hey Lee!” Someone called over the music. I looked over and saw Kristy a senior this year. She and I had just become friends this past year. All of a sudden a girl screeched and something cold hit my back. I gasped and turned around the doors were closed and it was pitch black. Everyone was screaming and jumping when the music went off for two seconds. I felt another cold rush on my legs. The lights blinked on but they were black lights. I locked down and saw neon paint on my legs. I turned around and my eyes widened. Three high school guys were standing in the back with paint. This wasn’t going to end well. I didn’t care I just jumped to the beat. They ran through the crowed completely going all out with paint. Someone was beside me then. “Hey Lee, look over here.”So I did and Lucas kissed my cheek. I felt cold and noticed he had neon paint on his lips. Blue to be exact. I slapped his shoulder and he smirked. “I could get used to that.” He said. Then he through paint on me and ran away before I could catch him. It wasn’t much paint but enough. I jumped and danced with Amanda and Kristy for half the time I was there. My legs were covered in paint splatters. By the time I wanted to find a drink I was hit in the head with a water balloon I think. I turned around into the face of none other. Will from insanity. He smirked and threw another. I shrieked and backed to a wall. He nailed me with neon yellow. I tried to run but he grabbed me and dragged me outside. “I got one!” He screamed. I was blindfolded and moved to somewhere I didn’t know.  When I was unblindfolded I was on the roof. I looked around and heard laughter and cries of approval. “Hey sweet heart I’ll get you down! All you have to do is use this” he said throwing a skate board up. “…and skate board off!” He yelled. He pointed at the ground. “You either aim right or left your choice.” I looked down there was mud and hay on the other side. Stupid guys, they didn’t know I have skate boarded since I was four. I got my aim correct and pushed off. I managed to do a flip in the air and land on the board when I hit the ground. I heard nothing but the pounding music and voiced inside. “Amazing.” One said under their breath. I smiled even though I had twisted my ankle. I tried to step but fell. I couldn’t move my ankle. Oh gosh. Someone was helping me up when I couldn’t. “It’s nothing” I said to him. I didn’t know the guy but he was the one who told me how to get off the roof. “No problem sweet heart.” Again with the sweetheart. I was doing a mental fore head smack. I tried to limp back in when the guy whispered in my ear “Probably a good idea to turn around sweet heart. I think it’s about to get a little crazy.” Oh joy. He handed me something then my ankle started to feel better to where I could walk. Right when I looked down I felt something hit my back. I turned around and squirted paint on them. Of course mine is pink. I ran into the field laughing and then focus I told myself. I didn’t have much paint left. No one was in sight. Well one person. I didn’t care about it though. He wouldn’t shoot me. I heard a low growl. I turned around slowly. I saw eyes staring into mine. I couldn’t move I knew what was standing there. The wolf’s teeth were bright white and his eyes deadly.  Right as I thought I was safe the wolf jumped at me and I held my paint toy-thing up so it would only bite that. Its claws dug into my legs and I muffled a scream when the wolf repositioned itself and crushed my windpipe. I felt something warm on my leg and stomach. I yelled out but nothing happened. I started to cry but I couldn’t move. The wolf bit my leg and I was being dragged. I clawed at the ground. If he got me in the woods I would be as good as gone. The dirt was going under my nails. I screamed but the music was turned up louder. Where are they! I was suddenly abandoned. The wolf was gone. I think. But right when I thought that the wolf jumped and this time I was too late. It got my stomach and I screamed out so loud it made the wolf step back. My stomach had been cut but not deep enough. I took all my strength and picked up the paint toy and hit the wolf…hard. It staggered back and ran into the woods. I sat up screaming at the pain and saw a big slice on my stomach and bite marks on my ankle. My fingers were bloody from trying to get away. I fell back my head hitting a rock and I was fading. Darker…and darker…
