They say that the more you witness something, the more you'll become dysenthesised to it. The less it'll bother you. The easier it'll get to be around it.
Those people where wrong. The stench that came with death would always send my stomach churning, eyes watering and skin itching in agony.
So I'm sitting here in the freezing cold, on this rickety blue bench, scratching at my irritated pores as my body screams to be released from this chamber of the dead. My eyes carefully scan the slow commotion before me. Bright yellow tape and a row of police officers surround the tufts of dead grass. Members of my crew are slowly observing the abundance of blood stains we where left, as a pesky reporter who snuck in disguised as a Bio-Hazard cleaner, tip-toes around the outskirts of the scene.
I shook my head in admiration of her efforts, carefully sipping on the coffee warming my hands. It was incredibly amusing that she thought she had outsmarted me. Not to brag, but I was genuinely the best there was, at least for the moment. Someone better always comes along.
For 15 years I had been fast tracked into the high crimes investigation division, and I hated every minute of it unless I was sitting back like I was now, quietly observing while I let the solution come to me on its own. The only way to figure something out was to observe from a distance, gain a fresh perspective. At least that's how I operated.
"Lost in your thoughts again Celestia"
I nod my head in agreement as Ty, my main investigation partner parks himself on the bench beside me.
"You just sat in bird shit." I smile at him, taking pleasure in the way his face contorts into disgust.
"Oh wow you weren't kidding", his deep chuckle is carried away on the harsh wind as he immediately stands up, observing the colorful new spotting on the back of his slacks.
"Well I was just checking what you thought about the case. We've been here for six hours."
I let my fingers skim along the soft rubber encasing my mug, my mouth twisting into a small, satisfied smile.
"I figured it out a few minutes ago, another one of Andy's hit and run cases. I was just enjoying the rare moment of solace." I could feel my features slowly melting into a frown as I realized this meant it was back home, awaiting someone else to ring me demanding I smell death once again.
Ty observed my features closely, always knowing when I was feeling down.
"I can keep you company tonight, if you like."
I quickly shook my head no. We had been strictly professional until that one fateful night, and I knew that if I was left without the constraints of work, the desperate and lonely part of me would jump at a chance to be with him again. I couldn't do that to him, not after everything he's been through. It was too cruel.
"It's okay, really. I have a lot of paperwork to go though." He shot me one last comforting smile before taking the hint and moving back to the van, signaling for our half of the team to head home.
I slowly arose from my position on the bench, my stiff bones aching from the sudden movement. My legs quickly adjusted, carrying me past the disguised reporter.
"Excuse me Mrs., Pendel is it?" I questioned, quickly observing her name tag.
"Um, yes, can I help you ma'am?" Her façade faltered for just a second as she quickly shoved the notebook she had been carrying into her dangling pockets.
"Next time you try to infiltrate a crime scene, consider making it an interesting one." I shot her a wink and turned softly on my heels before jumping into the back of our van.
Ty was grinning from ear to ear as I slide into the space next to him, keeping an appropriate distance between us. "Cassidy again?"
I watched her astonished face through the window as we cautiously pulled away from the field. Taking one last sip of my burning coffee I smiled in her direction.
"Her persistence is endearing really. It reminds me of how I used to be."

Don't forget to VOTE, COMMENT and ADD to your LIBRARYPSA: This crime scene was NOT one of the scenes from the mass murder cases. It was merely an insight into Celestia's character. The next chapter will most probably include the main plot point scene idk it's all honestly coming to me chapter by chapter :)
