The classroom around her was alive with the low hum of idle chatter as her classmates enjoyed the unexpected freedom of a substitute teacher’s absence. Yet, Jisu was far removed from the lively atmosphere, her mind stuck replaying the events of the previous night, over and over, like a scene from a film caught in an endless loop.
Her trance was abruptly shattered by the sharp, familiar voice of Chaeryeong. “Jisu eonni!” The sudden call to reality took a heartbeat too long for Jisu to register. She blinked rapidly, as if surfacing from a deep dream, and straightened in her seat.
“I’m sorry, what did you say?” she asked, her voice tinged with confusion and a hint of embarrassment.
Chaeryeong’s irritation was barely concealed. With an exaggerated roll of her eyes and a sigh that spoke volumes, she dismissed the matter with a wave of her hand. “It’s nothing. Just forget it,” she muttered before turning her attention to another classmate, leaving Jisu to wrestle with a pang of guilt.
The absence of their professor had left the class in a state of unusual idlenessㅡa rare luxury that would normally be welcomed with excitement. But Jisu found herself unable to join in the lighthearted banter. Her thoughts were consumed by the mysterious woman she had encountered the night before, a woman who claimed to be Shin Ryujin, the elusive heiress of the Shin empire, whose existence had long been shrouded in speculation and rumor.
How could it really be her? Jisu wondered, her mind a chaotic whirlpool of curiosity and disbelief. The possibility that she had met the real Shin Ryujin, of all people, was both exhilarating and terrifying. The weight of this revelation pulled her away from the present, and she soon found herself making a quiet escape from the classroom. Slinging her backpack over her shoulder, she slipped out the door, craving the fresh air of the campus grounds to untangle her thoughts.
The morning sun bathed the university in a golden glow, its warmth barely registering with Jisu as she walked, lost in her own world. The crisp air was filled with the laughter of students and the rustle of leaves, a stark contrast to the turmoil swirling within her.
As she neared her favorite coffee vendor, she was greeted by the familiar, cheerful voice of the barista. “Good morning, Jisu-yah!” The vendor’s sunny disposition momentarily cut through the fog of Jisu’s thoughts. She returned the smile, ordering her usual bicerin coffee, seeking comfort in the familiar routine.
“Coming right up!” The vendor’s enthusiastic reply grounded her, offering a fleeting sense of normalcy amid the storm raging inside her.
Coffee in hand, Jisu felt an inexplicable pull towards the very spot where she had encountered the enigmatic woman. The unease she had felt the night before surged back, stronger now, laced with a nervous anticipation she couldn’t quite shake. Just as she was lost in contemplation, her thoughts were interrupted by the sudden blare of a campus-wide announcement, calling her to the President’s Office immediately.
A sense of dread settled in her stomach as Jisu made her way to the office, her mind racing through a dozen scenarios. What could the President possibly want with me? The prospect of facing President Shin, a figure of such authority and influence, only intensified her anxiety.
She knocked softly on the heavy wooden door before pushing it open. The room was bathed in natural light, and behind an imposing desk sat President Shin, her eyes scanning a stack of documents with a focused intensity. Jisu stepped inside, bowing respectfully. “Good morning, President Shin,” she greeted, her voice betraying just a hint of the nerves that gripped her.
“Ah, Miss Choi. Please, have a seat,” President Shin said, looking up with a warm but discerning smile. “I’ve been meaning to discuss your recent project. It was quite impressive.”
Jisu’s heart skipped a beat. “Thank you, President Shin,” she managed, though her mind was still reeling from the unexpected summons.
The President leaned back in her chair, studying Jisu with an appraising gaze. “Your work has garnered significant attention. I’d like to talk about a new opportunity that could be quite beneficial for you.”
Jisu nodded, unsure of where this conversation was headed but eager to find out, her curiosity outweighing her nerves.
Before Jisu could muster a response, the door creaked open once more. The smooth, familiar voice that followed sent her heart into a stuttered rhythm. “Apologies for my tardiness; I was detained by another matter.”
Jisu’s pulse quickened as President Shin turned to greet the newcomer. “Ah, perfect timing. Miss Choi, allow me to introduce my daughter.”
The confirmation struck Jisu like a jolt. The woman from the previous night stepped forward, her presence both commanding and elegant. Shin Ryujin’s gaze found Jisu’s, a flicker of recognition softening the coolness in her eyes. The faintest smile curled her lips, a stark contrast to the enigmatic aura she had exuded before.
“It seems fate has brought us together again, Miss Choi Jisu,” Ryujin said, her tone carrying a subtle blend of amusement and intrigue.
Caught off guard, Jisu swallowed the knot of nerves tightening in her throat. “It appears so, Miss Shin,” she replied, managing a tentative smile. “The honor is mine.”
The air in the room thickened with unspoken tension, a mingling of curiosity and anticipation. President Shin observed the exchange with a discerning gaze, her fingers laced thoughtfully on the desk before her.
Jisu struggled to steady herself, grappling with the revelation that she had indeed crossed paths with Shin Ryujin, the elusive heiress whose name stirred whispers and speculation throughout the campus. The implications swirled through her mind, each more daunting than the last, but one thought shone through with startling clarity: this encounter could change everything.
As the conversation unfolded, Jisu found herself slowly easing into the flow of it. Ryujin’s initial aloofness gave way to a warmth that was as unexpected as it was disarming. She asked about Jisu’s work with genuine interest, her eyes lighting up at each detail, making Jisu feel seen in a way that was both exhilarating and unnerving. The stiff formality of their first meeting melted into something far more personal, an unspoken connection forming in the spaces between their words.
By the time Jisu left the President’s Office, her nerves had given way to a rush of excitement. The encounter had opened doors she never knew existed, hinting at possibilities she had only ever dreamed of. The campus, once a familiar backdrop to her daily routine, now seemed to pulse with new energy, a stage set for something extraordinary.
As she walked back to her classroom, a smile tugged at her lips, her steps light and unburdened. The chance meeting with Shin Ryujin, a woman wrapped in layers of mystery, had become more than a fleeting encounterㅡit was an invitation to a new chapter in her life. And for the first time in a long while, Jisu felt a spark of something she hadn’t dared hope for: a sense of possibility.

Together, they navigated the complexities of their worlds, their stories now intertwined in a dance of fate that neither could escape nor resist.
The tale of Jisu and Ryujin was only just beginningㅡa story of unexpected connections, of a destiny that refused to be ignored, of two souls finding their way to each other against all odds.
