I open my eyes to bright fluorescent lights. My entire body is stiff. How long have I been laying here? Where am I? How did I get here? "Beep... Beep... Beep..." What the hell is that beeping noise? I close my eyes and open them again to adjust to the light. As I look around, I notice that I'm in a hospital room. What the fuck is going on? There were flowers and balloons everywhere. So many that the smell of flowers is all can smell. There was a man in the chair towards the end of my bed. Who the hell is he?
He was pretty nice to look at. His brown skin was smooth, and his black curly hair was tousled like he had been asleep for hours in that chair. He was handsome. I opened my mouth to speak, but nothing would come out. My throat was unbelievably dry. Like I hadn't spoken for months. I cleared my throat and tried again. "Hey." It came out a whisper. "Hey." The guy jumped awake looking around confused his eyes locked on mine. When he looked at me, I felt this sense of calmness wash over me.
"Cass?" The look on his face was a mix of surprise, relief, and happiness. But who the hell is Cass and why is he calling me it? He must have seen the confusion on my face because he started to look worried. "Cassidy, you know who I am right?"
"Who's Cassidy?" Was all I get to come out.
"Do you know who you are?" I laughed a little because of course I who I am. My name is... What the hell was my name? Who the fuck am I? I could feel everything closing in on me. "Hey, it's okay I'm here." The guy grabbed onto my hand and that feeling of calmness started to hit me again. "I'm Brian. Your boyfriend." I nodded my head. Maybe that's why I felt so calm around him. "I'm going to go get the nurse."
He started to let go of my hand, but I quickly grabbed it back. "No don't leave."
"It's okay. I'll just press the call button." He reached to the side of me and grabbed the remote attached to the bed. A few moments later a nurse walked it.
"We doin... Oh! You're awake. You've had this guy over here worried out of his mind." She had this bright smile on her face.
"She's awake, but she can't remember anything. She doesn't know who she is or who I am. Is that normal?" How do I not know who I am?
"Well, she did hit her head in the accident but let me page the doctor for you two." Once she left the room Brian's hazel brown eyes were back on mine.
"So let me get this straight. I was in a car accident. My name is Cassidy and you're my boyfriend Brian. How long have I been out?" This was all insane. How do I not remember anything?
"It's been about a month and a half since the accident." What the actual fuck!
"A month and a half? Where is my family? My parents?" Did no one but him care that I was lost?
He looked at me with such sadness. "Cass your parents died three years ago. You don't have much family. You were an only child."
"So you're telling me I'm alone. Alone in a world where I don't remember who I am or anyone in my life." This couldn't be it. This couldn't be my life. A life I couldn't remember. I was alone.
"Hey, hey you're not alone. You have me to help you. I'm always going to me here Cassidy." He was here. If I didn't have anyone I had him.
