Fred laughed, running from George. He and his brother had made a game of who could stuff Percy's cauldron with the most useless books till a) one of them got caught or b) Percy ended up dropping the cauldron due to the weight. As the latter occurred, the twins made a run for it.

How else were they to entertain themselves? Shopping for the older boys' school things was such a mundane activity.

Fred lost sight of George as he turned into another book shop. He moved past the students looking for books, going down a random aisle to hide.

"Jaxson grab another copy of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them!" Fred heard a light shout from the crowded counter. There was no reply back to the voice, but moments later a kid ran past Fred.

Fred blinked taking in the child's coily umber hair, sepia skin tone, and vibrant crystal blue eyes that were framed with long black lashes.

She was the prettiest girl he'd ever seen.

Fred watched as the said girl reached for a book a bit too high even for her tippy toes.

"I-Ill get it for you!" Fred shouted without meaning to. Totally forgetting his whole point of coming into the bookstore.

The mysterious girl glanced towards him. Freds 9-year-old heart hammered against his ribs when meeting her halo eyes. He couldn't quite comprehend what he was feeling.

"Uh, thanks, ... why are you smiling like that?"

Fred touched his face. Not even noticing he had been grinning like an idiot. He rubbed the back of his head, sure his face and neck as red as the book he grabbed for. He not so gracefully fished the small threaded text out and handed it to the girl.

She smiled gently, nodding.  Fred's heart dropped as she turned to take the book back to the voice.

"Wait!" She turned, looking at Fred. "I'm Fred."

"Jaxson."

"We should meet again —"

"Frederick Gideon Weasley!" A hand yanked on Fred's collar. His mother glared down at him, face as red as a baboons butt. George was in her other arm poking fun at Percy who still looked furious. Their mother shook him, yelling again.

Fred was distracted from her lecture, looking instead after the girl. She had already gone.

Jaxson. Jax.

The day Fred had met her, was the last. She wasn't there when starting school and he hadn't seen her at the bookshop. He never told George of their encounter. Fred wanted to keep their interaction their secret. Even if she didn't know it was a secret.

Fred watched as another first year was called. He and George had been catcalling who would get sorted into Gryffindor.

"Sally Anne? Total Hufflepuff!"

"Whatever, you're just saying that because of her name. You said one of the other boys was a Ravenclaw because he wore glasses, the kid was a Slytherin. I say Sally is a Ravenclaw."

George and Jordan argued over the girl.

"GRYFFINDOR!"

"No surprise. Both wrong." Fred smirked at the two.

"What! The heck Sally!"

The girl glanced confused to Georges's outburst as she sat at the table.

"That's two sickles for me." Fred showed his hand as they grudgingly paid the bet.

"Plight, Jaxson!"

Jaxson.

Fred looked curiously towards the first year. Coily umber hair, sepia skin tone, they turned, sitting down on the stool. Before the hat fell over their head, those eyes were clear to Fred.

Crystal blue halos.

"Hmm, he's defiantly a Ravenclaw." George folded his arms.

Fred scrunched his ginger brows. He?

"Wait he—"

"No way! That's a Gryffindor face right there."

"Gryffindor! Jordan, your going blind—"

Fred looked intently at the sorting. She was a he? But then why was his heart beating? For a-a boy? No way, Fred Weasley was not gay.

Was he?

Without anyone else knowing, the thirteen-year-old experienced internal turmoil as he went back over all the crushes he had had. Had he had any crushes? Well, there was Angelina, but that might have just been jealousy that his brother liked her.

The hat debated for a moment. "...hmm... Better be... GRYFFINDOR!"

Jordan jumped to his feet, shaking George's shoulders. "Told ya!"

"Damn.." George sighed.

While everyone got distracted from Harry Potter being called, Fred just continued staring at Jaxson. He was sitting at the end conversing with a puffy haired girl with buck teeth. He smiled at something she said, eyes crinkling. Fred leaned on his arm. Jax really was cute.

Cute? Fred sat up, glancing at the table.

The night went on and Fred learned one thing got sure.

He had to stay away from Jaxson Plight. At least until he figured out whatever this was.
