My day started off quite normally. Got ready for school, cleaned my room and hopped on my bicycle ready to climb the mountain. My school was on a cliff side, very unorthodox location for a school but who am i to complain. As i made my way up i saw the beautiful coastline; shimmering blue waves, the glistening moss covered breakwater and the slowly rising sun as it basked the sea with its brilliant aura. It was very nostalgic for me because it reminded me of my mother. She used to love the beach and we would go every weekend. Sadly she passed away a few years ago, ironically in a boating accident in the very sea she loved.
I hadn't been to the beach ever since.
I reached school, parked my bike and set off to my class. The day went on as mundanely as possible. Did time slow down in class or was that just my own perception? I'll never know.
My friends had after-school activities but I had to go on home. Someone had to feed dad. As i made my way back i saw something that would change my life forever. If i could go back i wouldve never stopped to help that girl but that's life you dont know what you'll end up getting.
When i reached the bottom of the mountain i saw a girl sitting at the bus stop. What attracted me towards her was the fact that there was a man standing Infront of her and he did not look friendly.
I made my way to the bus stop in a ruse to catch my breath.
"Listen mister, I dont have any money! Please go away!" she cried out
"Hey! Hey! keep your voice low or I'll cut you. Stupid bitch" he spat
She looked at me with tears in her eyes mouthing the words "Help me!"
I got off my bike and walked up to the pair with my phone next to my ear,
"Hello officer, there's a man at corniche street bus stop harassing a woman, he's wearing a black jacket has blonde hair and is around six feet tall..." I spoke into my phone
He looked at me and then glared at her,
"I'll catch you some other time then bitch!" he said as he ran away.
Once he was out of sight I sat down next to her and gave her my bottle of water.
She took it shakingly and burst into tears.
"Oh thank you so much! I was terrified of what he was going to do to me!" she cried and leaned next to me. Still crying.
I have a policy not to let other people into my private space but this was an exception. I mean I'd be a huge jerk to push her away.
"It's ok, you're ok now. I dont think hes coming back anytime soon" i consoled her
"I was so scared, umm sorry i dont know your name?" she asked
"I'm Jim, Jim Star nice to meet you" i said
"Hi Jim Star, I'm Alice nice to meet you too" she replied. She smiled. Her smile was so genuine and pure that i couldnt help but smile myself. She was beautiful, no denying that. Her auburn hair, sharp eyes and plump pink lips were quite breathtaking.
"Can you stay with me for a while?" she asked pulling her hair behind her ear.
"Of course Alice" I replied.
We sat there for a couple of minutes until she got better. Afterwards i asked if it was ok for me to drop her off but she said that her bus was on its way. Before i left she asked me to check around one more time to make sure the guy wasn't around. So i did. When i returned i was shook, there was no sign of her! Only my bag but it wasnt on my bike where I had left it. I rushed to it and opened the bag. Everything was there, I opened my wallet and all of my money with my ID card was gone?!
Looking at the bench i was horrified, there was a small pool of blood on the bench and dripping onto the ground!
Puzzled i looked around thinking that maybe the guy circled back and assaulted her before i could come back when i heard police sirens.
I looked towards the sound and surely enough two police cruisers were headed my way.
They stopped right Infront of me and two guys jumped out from one and three females jumped out from the second one.
I gasped because i recognized the third female. It was Alice!
"Hey Alice! Where'd you go? Who's blood is that? I was looking all over for you" I said
"Stop right there! Dont make another move or I'll be forced to shoot you!" shouted the female officer
Confused i stopped moving,
"What do you mean? What did i do?" I asked absolutely puzzled
"He's the one! That guy right there!" she shouted whilst pointing at me
"He tried to rob me and then when i refused to give him money he stabbed me right here!" she pointed at her left arm. Blood was seeping through her shirt down her arm!
"Don't make any sudden moves and surrender yourself immediately!" shouted the cops
"I don't understand?! I didnt stab or rob her! I saved her from this man who was trying to assault her!" i said looking at Alice in horror
"On the ground and put your hands behind your back!" shouted the cops
I was about to get on my knees when I heard the sound of a whip cracking but it was amplified by a thousand. Instantaneously I felt a sharp pain in my left leg and lost my footing instantly.
"Stop resisting! Get on the ground!" one of the cops shouted
"I wasn't resisting-" the pain made me fall face front onto the curb
"Cuff him John, careful he's dangerous and armed" said one of the female cops
"I don't have a weapon" i said weakly. I could feel the loss of blood affecting my vision. It was becoming blurry.
"Ha! there it is, the knife you stabbed her with!" shouted John, "It was in your bag you lying thug! stabbing an innocent girl and then resisting arrest, how pathetic. Put him in the back and take him to the station" said John.
The other cop dragged me to his car and threw me in the back.
"You're going in for a long time you piece of shit!" he rammed the door shut.
I was losing consciousness, fast. I managed to look out the window and saw Alice smiling down on me, I jumped back horrified. It wasn't the lovely smile she gave me at the bus stop but a twisted grin that sent shivers down my spine.
"See you in court" she said while walking back to the other cruiser.
I couldn't think straight, the blood loss made sure of that. I tried to grip my consciousness but it was fading and within a few seconds I passed out.
