The Void

Everything always has to start somewhere, and that somewhere is nothing.

It's dark, maybe cold, possibly warm, it's empty, it's lonely. It's the Void.

There are those in our society that believe the world was constructed by a higher power. A higher power that's designed our fates and has a path for us all. There are others which scoff at the idea, even though they themselves can perform magic, have the ability of creation. They believe that the world was created through an explosion of rock and elements combining themselves into the structure of our solar system. There are some who don't know what to believe, some who believe too much, and some who believe in nothing at all.

It was said we were the first, that our people burst forth from the Earth's inner crust, that we were made from the core. My people and I are made of the life force that vibrates in every atom of this planet.

We lived underground, digging tunnels, making caverns and discovering minerals and ores, consuming them only made us stronger.
We evolved to walk on two feet instead of four, but we're still built for the prowl of the predator. We can still hear all that goes on, still see through the darkness as if our eyes were the candles to light our dark void, still smell the stench of your meal from three nights ago upon your breath.

Whilst we ruled the Undercrust there were those who ruled the skies above us, as oblivious to our existence as we were to theirs.
Creatures of brightly colored plumage who ruled the skies and the Heavens.
They had many advantages to their own kind as we did ours. They were excellent hunters. Silent, fast and intelegent.

As well as us Undercrusters and the Skyborn there were races which lived halfway.
There were strong warriors, born with impenetrable armour and magic imbedded so deep in their guts that their breathe burned with the frost of hell, they governed caves, learning to craft as we did. The Hellions were a terrifying legion of winged and scaled herds, ready to come together and unleash ungodly justice upon those who wronged them.

Finally, there were those of the trees and the bushes and the streams. Those who were there, but who couldn't be seen. Invisible warriors with terrible guerilla style tactics. They knew the land as if it were apart of them, and if they were apart of the land. Warriors which blend perfectly into the landscape and learned to nurture and care for the wildlife that came with it.
Those of the Brier made life flourish, but could just as easily stamp it out.

Years passed and the clans all eventually met, making trade deals, sharing knowledge, and of course, fighting upon occasion.
Each war brought strain upon relations but no side ever won in a war.

If you were in Skyborn territory you would lose to a Skyborn, if you were in Void territory you would lose to the people of the Void, if you were in the forest you would lose to those of the Brier and if you stumbled into a cave up in the mountains of the North your skin would be scorched from your bones and used as weapons and toothpicks.

There was no victory in those wars, only death until Clan leaders finally released soldiers from their duties.

Many more years passed and the Skyborn became the Celenials, the Birdfolk, rulers of the Mountains and lands of the South.
The Hellions became the Draghi, scaled rulers of the North.
Those of the Brier became the Camillyan, they ruled the upper surfaces and finally, there were the people of the Void.
We kept our name, staying true to our beginnings... In that sense.

I'm too young to remember past grievances with the other Races. Not the Celenials, the Draghi nor the Camillyan folk, but on lives the racism, the distrust in some places. I often fear that when the time comes, when we all really need each other, we will turn a blind eye to those who suffer because of pride, distrust and prejudices older than our most revered Deity.

I feel destruction knocking upon our mortal gate, and I don't know about the others, but I fear it.
