"No. He can't be accepted. Disciples need to be able to cook so they can work in the restaurant as well. This fool can't even cook. I doubt he can even make salad that is presentable given his cutting skills! Did you see the cucumber he slaughtered?" he snickered along with a few other chefs who didn't even try covering it.

'He is speaking the truth. I can't even rebuke him...'

"Then we'll ask Lotus Restaurant CEO and Xuan Lu and Cao YuChen who are in charge of this learning program and see what they think." Zhan said flatly, standing up and closing his notebook. "I do not need to look at other applicants. I do not intend on teaching them. Yibo. Follow me to my office."

"Y-yes Head Chef Zhan" Yibo quickly followed after Zhan.

"Close the door." After walking in, Yibo closed the door behind him.

Zhan sat down on his office chair and messaged Xuan Lu about the incident and telling her he's finally accepting a disciple.

"Yibo. One last question. I don't mind teaching you but there will be people who will try to hurt you just because I'm your teacher. Are you fine with that?"

"Yes. I'm ready for anything. I just want to learn."

"Good. We'll improve on your knife cutting skills. You were pretty unstable today and too slow. Here's a notebook. This is for you to write down any notes and feedback I'll give you. Treat it as your own personal cookbook or logbook and diary. It's important that you know where your mistakes are and how to fix it. Use it for whatever else ou need it for. Up to you. Always keep it with you."

"Thank you Head Chef Zhan. Can I call you shi-fu (master) or Xiao laoshi?"

"You may call me Xiao laoshi" he smiled. "Though. Chef Goongmin wasn't wrong. It seemed to me the cucumbers have previously offended you in some way" he laughed.

Yibo looked at his smile and was amazed as he only saw him with a straight face all morning or the annoyed and angry face he had when talking with other chefs. He was also glad his teacher was a really nice person and seemed easy-going.

"We will not always be learning here like other students. Meet me outside the restaurant tomorrow and we will go to the village to help the elderly. We'll be there for a few days so bring whatever you need."

"Xiao laoshi. Um..."

"Ask your question. I do not mind."

"Why are we going to the village to learn knife skills?"

"To cook for them. There are a lot of people living there so we need to cook a lot of food. You need to practice cutting vegetables as a starter and we do not want to waste food. We will also help them carry stuff and fix furnitures. You can train arm strength there as well. Understood?"

While Zhan was resting in his office, Chef GoongMin walked in; without knocking.

Zhan just looked at him, not even bothering in arguing with him. "Yes?"

"You'll be destroying the reputation of the restaurant if you persist in taking him in as a student. We only take elite students."

"*sigh* Do you even know what you're saying?"

Xuan Lu walked in at the right time, before Zhan really loses his temper if Chef GoongMin says something stupid again.

"Chef Zhan, Chef GoongMin!" Xuan Lu exclaimed, a bit too happily, as she took a seat on the couch.

"Lu-jie. Are you just going to allow him to take in that fool that can't even cook. What about the restaurant?!"

"Calm down now. I know you care about the restaurant just as much as we do but Yibo won't be cooking with the other students or in any cooking for customers. Not until he is deemed ready by the rest of us. I'm sure you had to learn the basics now too when you were younger. He is just a late bloomer."

"Fine. He has to go through another set of test before he can cook in the kitchen for cutomers."

"Sure. Now, why don't you go invent a new recipe. The CEO told me he wants to create a new special menu and will be choosing."

"Yes Lu-jie."

Cheg Goongmin walked out and Zhan immediately rolled his eyes, rubbing his temples.

"Calm down Zhan. We all know how he is."

"He isn't qualified to be a teacher."

"Yes. But his skills are pretty good for students. Not as good as yours but still good enough. So what are your plans for the new student?"

"We'll be gone for a few days to the village and he'll practice his cutting skills there and he'll work on his arm strength. Uncle four did say the furniture was getting loose. He has a passion for cooking but staying in a kitchen to learn how to cook isn't always fun. Because of his confidence level, I'm afraid he'll lose passion. He's like a kid. A passionate kid."

"I can't wait to see the type of food he is able to make with a teacher like you."

NOTE:

So, I'm really making these things up. I tried searching on Google like fun ways and creative ways to improve cooking skills and knife skills and all these things but it just comes up with practising cutting again and again and different ways to cut things (like dicing, slices, etc). So I need to make up all these random things that I don't even know works. I mean, yeah practice, but I need a little fluff.

I stayed up till 6 am the other day trying to catchup with lectures 😭 Home study is honestly making me lazier. I'm more productive at night now than morning. This is worse than Wei WuXian's sleeping and working schedule 😂😪

BTW is Chef GoongMin mean enough?
