"L-Lily?"Autumn's eyes widened in utter shock and then something in her exploded withjoy and she grabbed her cousin and gave her the biggest hug she could muster! She could feel, however, that Lily was far more fragile than she had anticipated.
Autumn quickly let her go but didn't pull back too far. "Oh my god! Look at you—you're all grown up!" She quickly threw Lily's hood down so she could see her face but Lily gasped and pulled it back over her head.
There was a small pause and Lily stared at the ground. The ran continued to fall, but it was a little lighter now.
"Thanks for coming to get me Autumn." Lily said quietly.
Autumn looked down and noticed Lily's hands shaking. "Yeah," Autumn studied her face, but she couldn't get her to look in her eyes. "Any time, Lily." She tried to smile and give her something positive but Lily didn't seem to notice.
After all this time Autumn had envisioned Lily running to her with open arms—happy! Excited and grateful that she was there for her but instead, something was wrong, that much Autumn could tell.
"Hey!" Autumn ignored the serious conversation that needed to happen. "Eli is going to get us some dinner! Then maybe we can go home and watch a movie!"
Lily nodded slowly and Autumn couldn't help but notice her eyes shift in a paranoid fashion. Autumn forced herself to ignore it. Lily nodded and then Autumn thought she saw her swallow.
Lily looked up to Autumn and nodded.
Autumn noticed something odd in Lily's eyes...something off. She couldn't place it and she quickly smiled and ignored it. "Come on, Eli's waiting." She held Lily's cold hand as she moved her past the bus, she stopped suddenly. "Oh—your suitcase, we should get that." She said after noticing people who were being handed suitcases that were kept under the bus in a transport system.
"I don't have one." she said quietly.
Autumn paused again and realized she didn't see a bag over her shoulder either. "Oh...that's okay. I like to travel light too...do you have a bag or something?"
Lily shook her head and eagerly said. "It was stolen."
Autumn hesitated. "Oh—that's the worst...um, I'm sure we can help you get it back."
"No," Lily said and then glanced at the car ahead. "I...I don't want you to worry about it." she looked down and Autumn thought she looked like she was going to get sick. "Can we just go to the apartment. I...I just need some sleep." Her voice once again went quieter, like a child's.
