I wake to my clean and tidy room. I get out of bed and head over to my mirror. I look into my blue eyes and stare at my blonde hair. My freckles look like poke-a-dots on my face, and my white but somewhat tanned skin is smooth and virtually without pimples and blackheads. I have dimples and straight hair. I get ready for school, I put on my riding boots, my denim jeans, and a pink t-shit. I put my long hair in a braid, and head downstairs. My dad is sitting at the kitchen table, eating a croissant, and reading the newspaper. My father looks up at me "Hello, deer! Looking pretty today." "Thank you, daddy." "Are you heading to school?" He asked. "Yes, I am. Hayden should be here to pick me up at any moment." The doorbell then rang. I walk over to the dore, I open the door. Hayden is standing there wearing a blue collared shirt, with the sleeves rolled up. His short blonde hair is combed back. And his glasses have smudge marks on them. He is wearing black jeans. "Hi, Penny!" He said. "Hi, Hayden," I answer. "Are you ready for school?" He asked. "I sure am." "Alright let's go!" He said, then turning around. "Oh, wait!" I said. I grab Hayden's shoulder and turn him around. I then get really close to him and smile. "Your glasses! They're all dirty!" I say. I take off his glasses and wipe them with my pink t-shirt for him. He blushes. "Th-th-thank you!" He says. We then get into Hayden's car and drive to school. Once school ended, he dropped me off at my work. I work at Audrey Plains Ranch, where I teach the less fortunate children how to horseback ride. As I step out of the car and head towards the stables, Bronco, the owners' Ausstralian shepprad.
"Hi, Bronco!" I say, petting his fur. I then head into the stable to greet all of my horses. "Hi, Luna. Hi, Sierra. Hi, Red. Hi, Jazmyne. Hi, Thunder. Hi, Tempest. Hi, Spirit. Hi, Seattle. Hi, Warren. Hi, Victor. Hi, Teeko. Hi, Issi. Hi, Molly. Hi, Dandelion. Hi, Daisy. Hi, Tally. Hi, Texas. Hi, Devon. Hi, Maisy. Hi, Suzy. Hi, Black Lightning. Hi, Constantinople. Hi, Princess. Hi, Prince. Hi, Star-Moon. Hi, Brownie. Hi, Moose. Hi, Courtney." I head over to Princess's stall. And begin to rub her head, until I hear a voice. "Thank God, have you finally shut up." I turn to my left and see somebody turn the corner. Standing there is a tll, green-eyed, with short wavy brown haired-boy. He is wearing a white t-shirt, too small for him. His muscles practically bulging out of the shirt. He is wearing long baggy black jeans, that go over his boots. In his hands, is a pitchfork. With the spikes of the fork, facing down towards the stable ground. His jawline is sharp. And his stare, unbreaking. "I- uh-uh." I stummer. He is SO hot. And for a moment, I lose track of where I am. I shake my head, and finally, speak. "Excuse me?" I say in an agitated tone. "Hi, this, hi, that. It was annoying. I'm trying to work, not go deaf." "Sorry, I was just saying hi to my horses." I retort, hands on my hips, looking at the stranger with a dirty gayz. "What? Why would you do that..? You know it's not like they can understand you, right?" "Horses are a lot smarter than you think, buddy!" "Not really... they're just big stupid animals." "That's not true," I said.
"It is true. They're big stupid animals, without a soul." "Who are you? And what are you doing on Mrs. Audrey's farm?" "I was hired by Mr. Oliver. I'm the new rancher. I'm here waiting to meet the head rancher." "Well, you're looking at her! My name is Penny Davis. I'm the head rancher. Your bosss!" "Some rancher you are." He said, huffing. "You look younger than me!" "Well, I'm 16. Old enough, buddy. How old are you?" "16." He answered, coldly. "Really? Then why haven't I seen you at Lakewood High?" "School is dumb and stupid! I dropped out in grade 9." "School is not dumb, nor is it stupid. Why don't you make yourself useful, and help me take the horses into the paddock." The new rancher and I, after putting the horses into the paddock, the new rancher and I, then cleaned up all the stalls and finished our chores. As I was leaving, heading over to my dad's car. I hear the sound of hooff in the distance. I turn and see the rancher, whom was named Asher, riding on Prince in one of the outdoor arenas. He was fast and rode so elegantly. His muscles flexing in the late evening sun. His brown hair flowing back, steering the horse with one hand. The other one, laying docile by his side. His bicep bulged, and his tongue clicked with every kicking of his boot. In his mouth was a ciagret. He rode with such determination. It was like his mind was only focused on the horse and his surroundings.
He wasn't distracted, he was unbreakable in that moment. He was as hard as stone. Later on that night, I was lying in bed, listening to Spotify, when Boys Will Be Bugs by Cavetown came on. As I was listening to it, all I could think of was Asher. It was almost like he was putting on a facade. Like all those things he said about horses, he didn't actually mean, by the way, he was riding Prince. The way he rode with him was like he had a bond. He wasn't really that tough. And I'm sure he didn't think horses were soulless. Eventually, when the song ended, I was still thinking about him. "Errgh!" I say to myself, grabbing a pillow and putting it over my head. "Get out of my thoughts..."
