Ok so I like this pretty new game, Hello Puppets. Again it's pretty new, I'm talking about it here, there WILL be SPOILERS!!! This is your ONLY SPOILER WARNING!!!!!
It's a VR game about living puppets. If you want the story I'll tell you later in the chapter, I'm not giving spoilers yet.
The game is AWESOME. It's got great characters, great visuals, great sound, it's awesomely TERRIFYING. Some of the character models are absolutely HORRIFYING and I love it!!
The game has moments of dread, jumpscares, and even those "oh crap something's coming for me RUN" moments! It's the kind of stuff that terrifies me, and I simultaneously love and hate it for that.
I'd recommend you watch a lets play or I can give you a video where the story is explained. If you do with the playthrough, I warn you it's SCARY and one of the main characters swears like a sailor.
Ok so the game takes place in this abandoned warehouse/studio for this old puppet show, I think it was Handeemen puppets, created by this guy, Owen something, I don't remember exactly what it's not important. But then after some time the place had an incident with fire that left 8 dead and more injured, and the place and the show were closed down.
You go into this place because you're looking for stuff for a Halloween article in your college's newspaper, because it's been rumored that people who go in never come out. So you go in and see it's not actually fully abandoned, as there's a puppet show being performed just for you, starring the main character Mortimer Handeeman! He tells you to pick out one of 5 hand puppets and put it on one of your hands. So you do and the person whose hand Mortimer is on and who've we've been assuming was puppeteering Mortimer goes limp on the desk/table/stage thing as Mortimer says some kinda spell. Also if you look closely at the character model, you can see a symbol tattooed on the guy's hand, a triangle with an eye in the middle. This will be important later.
You then wake up in this dark void on a wooden walkway with a giant Mortimer next to you, taunting you about your now braindead state and how the puppets will use your body now. But then there's a light and another voice, and the walkway builds itself in the direction of both, away from the giant Mortimer.
You wake up again, but this time in your own body, much to the shock of the puppet now attached to your arm. Her name is Scout, and she is the puppet that you picked at the start. No matter which of the 5 you choose it's always Scout. Whichever arm you put her on at first is the arm she is now magically attached to, which affects gameplay
Another character comes on the intercom, Riley Ruckus, a scientist who tests puppets who have new "hosts" which you are now one of. The puppets use their host's soul/life force to keep themselves alive, and also a way to move around. Scout's failed these tests 2 times with normal brain dead hosts, so now you're her last chance. She calls you "Host" throughout the game, because you can't just speak and give her your name, Riley has sewn your lips shut. Also the puppets have a weird thing with rhyming and Scout's seen as a black sheep for not wanting to rhyme.
So you do the tests/tutorial section, learn about a couple of enemies you'll encounter, most of which are called Sock Puppets and one of whom is Riley's dog, Rosco, a huge 2-person puppet who's had multiple bodies stuffed into him.
You also learn about this guy, Anthony Pierson. He has this conspiracy show/podcast where he also talks about supposedly supernatural locations, the warehouse being one of them. I'll tall more about him later.
Scout also reveals the other puppets' plan. She says "basically you're in a decommissioned sound stage filled with murderous sentient puppets from a cancelled children's tv show who were brought to life by an evil voodoo spell and now they want to drain your life force in order to sustain themselves so they can bring their cancelled show back to life and take over the world"
