I set my tray of strangely blue food as I plopped down at my usual lunch table. Jasper sat down beside me.
"No, no, man. You should have seen it. This huge monster loomed over me at that moment and- Oh, hey Yuri!" I looked up to find my best friend, and girlfriend, walking toward us.
Her bright almond-shaped eyes held sorrow as she only walked towards us. Jasper and I were silent as she sat beside us. She didn't have her home lunch on her.
"Ri," I reached my hand to her face. "what's wrong?"
"Ya girl, wheres all the jumping an yellin'?" Jasper cut in. Ignored him.
I leaned down to face her. She looked back up at me, not really meeting my eyes and plastered on a huge smile. It wasn't as big as her usual.
"Just had a long night, thats all." She said slowly. I didn't believe her, but when she pressed her lips to mine, I didn't mind.
Just a long night. I told myself.
"Dude, come on! Spare me!" Jasper joked. "Oh! my eyes! I'm dieing!"
I looked to my friend to watch him cover his eyes and bend backwards in his chair, acting dramatically a scene in which he really seemed to be melting.
"You really need to get into the drama club," I said, admiring his drama-y-ness.
He stopped suddenly at my voice, but didn't uncover his eyes. "Done?" he asked.
"Yep," I replied, just as I went back in for another kiss.
"Ahhh!" Jasper pretend-choked himself.
"He's dead." Said Yuri, leaning across the table to check his pulse.
"Finally! How I have longed for this day! muhahaha!" I laughed, standing and holding hands to the sky for effect.
"Hey come on man, not cool." said Jasper, propping himself back up at the table.
Yuri sat back down and gasped. "Oh no, he's alive!" She turned to me and took my hands with sad eyes. "What will we do now?" she asked.
"I know. I can't believe it. Our plans are all ruined now." I said, holding her hands as well. We stared at our hands clasped between the others'.
"What will we do about our plans to shove him in the trunk and drive off into the sunset?" she asked.
"Romantic scene with a dead body in your trunk?" cut in Jasper.
We ignored him, again. "And our plans for Hawaii?" I asked.
"Bo, I'm sorry but- I don't think we can." She turned her head to cry. I pat her back.
"What? I wanna go to Hawaii! I'm dead! See? I died. Can we go now?"
I look over at him and shrug. "Looks like he's died."
"My place at six?" asked Ri.
"Okay." I smiled as we went back to eating.
"Wait, so we are going to Hawaii?" Jasper was excited now, practically jumping in his seat.
"No way, man. There has to be a mourning period." replied Ri. Mourning my butt; its Friday. I'm going to party with my gal! Or make-out.
That's one of the reasons I love Yuri. She uses sentences like, "No way, man." She isn't afraid to be a little boyish, even if she is a girly-girl.
Today she was wearing a knee-length skirt with high boots and a blouse. All the colors swirled together in some way or another, and I had even more trouble taking my eyes from her because of that.
