Steven let out a sigh of relief, holding out his hand to the pink gem beside him.
"Thanks Spinel."

Spinel chuckled nervously, shaking his hand, "aw, gee, what're friends for?"

"Okay, we've almost cleaned up this mess, now all we need are Garnet's memories and my powers and we could all get back to living happily ever after."

He walked over to his friends, leaving Spinel behind. She frowned.

"What could work for Garnet.." Steven wondered out loud. Something about fusion? Something about love? Those two things were really the only things the fusion ever talked about. The boy put his hands in his pockets and his thoughts were cut short. His fingers gently brushed across the handle to the rejuvenator. He had forgotten that was there.

He gripped it tightly in his hand, glancing over his shoulder at the gem that stood a few feet behind him with a crestfallen expression. Steven frowned.

"Steven, are you alright?" Asked Pearl, putting a gentle hand on his shoulder.

"Yeah, um.. gi-give me a sec." He walked away from his confused friends, back over in the direction of Spinel.

"Spinel?" He called out with a soft voice. He noticed her eyes light up from being acknowledged by him.

"Y-yes?" She responded, almost eagerly.

His hand tightened around the rejuvenator. "Could you.. uh," how was he going to do this? Would she trust him enough to just turn around if he asked? He needed to bring her guard down somehow. An idea then came to mind.

He held his arms open with a slightly forced smile.
"You look like you could use a hug."

The gem was taken aback by the offer. Staring up at the boy as if this were some sort of trick. She rubbed her gloved hands together nervously. As much as she wanted this hug, she didn't want to be made a fool again.

"It's okay, I won't bite hehe," Steven chuckled.

Spinel smiled warmly, her pigtails lifting a bit and all her doubts fading away as she rushed over to wrap her arms around him. She giggled lightly as Steven returned the embrace. He couldn't help but smile. She was a great hugger. A pang of guilt pricked at his heart as he remembered the next step to his plan.

Steven hugged her tightly with one arm while the other hand slowly made its way into his jacket pocket. He fiddled with the item inside for a moment before pulling it out, returning his arm to hold Spinel with it still in his hand.

"Spinel?" He murmured under his breath.

"Hm?" She replied, her face still buried into his chest.

Steven took a deep breath. "I'm sorry."

He pressed the button on the rejuvenator, the click making Spinel jump in fear. He held her tightly with one arm while angling the weapon with the other.

Spinel's eyes widened with terror and tried to push away from Steven, but his hold on her proved to be too difficult to pull away from. He brought the scythe down swiftly. Spinel gasped as it sliced through her midsection. Along with his own.

They stared at eachother, Spinel taking a moment to register what Steven had done before tearing up. After all this, she still had her arms wrapped around his shoulders. She chuckled bitterly, "can't say I blame you.."

The gem burst into a puff of clouds. Her gem landing with a thump on the ground. Steven could feel his friends shocked stares burning into the back of his head as he dropped the rejuvenator and picked up the gem, walking back over to them. He handed the large, heart shaped gem to Pearl.

"Bubble her, we don't need her causing anymore trouble." He didn't meet the tall gem's gaze, too guilty by what he did.

Pearl held the gem close to her chest, examining it before bubbling it and sending it back to the Temple.

"What should we.. do with the rejuvenator?" She asked hesitantly.

Steven glanced back at the weapon still on the ground. He walked over to it and powered it off, pocketing it for now. The half human glanced up the injector still hovering in the sky. They should really do something about that.
