Readers POV

I'm still tired in the morning. I'm still tired after drinking two cups of coffee. I'm still tired after a cold shower. How can I be so tired? Maybe it was getting only about five hours of sleep, but then again, there was that demon guy.

What if he fed on my energy and somehow I forgot or he wiped my memory? Oh hell no! I wanna give my virginity to someone special, not the asshole who makes me waste perfectly good SFX makeup to hide the fact he nearly fucking choked me to death.

I walk to school in the cold, still groggy as hell but getting better. I don't think I can go to gym class first thing today. Fuck my schedule! I hate it so much.

At least I can sleep for an hour after art class, with my one free period in the day. But that's after science and history, so I'll have to go to work right after I wake up. Well shit. This is seriously gonna suck.

I'm greeted by an aggressive side hug from my best friend as soon as I get into the school. They grin at me, beaming such powerfully positive vibes it hurts to have their arm around my waist.

"Heya Y/N! How are ya feelin? You look like shit." They tease me, poking my face gently.

"Way to be blunt Aj." I retort with a chuckle. "I had a really hard time sleeping. I'm super stressed about this exam." I explain, my brow furrowing as I look at the floor with a sadder look.

They pat my head and mess up my hair by playing with it for a moment. "I get it. It's our midterm exam and your grade is almost entirely dependent on you passing it. But if you studied, and I know you did. Then you'll be okay!" They chime, throwing their hands up.

I shake my head a bit and look up at them again, a soft smile on my lips. "And let me guess, you didn't study did you?" I ask, poking their side and making them laugh.

"Nope! But do I ever?" They ask, cocking one of their eyebrows at me.

"No."
"But do I always pass?"
"Yeah.. wait— how the hell do you always pass?!"

I didn't really think about it before. They never study for even a second, and never take notes, but they've never gotten less than a B on a test.

They shrug at me with a sly side smile and state a rather blunt though still playful, "I'll never tell."

We split up as I go to the gym and they head down the hall to the robotics lab.

I nearly passed out from exhaustion while playing dodgeball, and then almost cut my fingers off while sawing wood in woodshop, but finally comes science class, and that dreaded exam.

I... now when I say I was expecting something difficult, I mean that I thought I was about to get handed a college test. But what I got was something so simple even middle schoolers could do it.

Aj and I are grinning at each other half the time we're testing, even if my smile was more drowsy.

After finishing I decide to take a nap at my desk. I lay my head down and close my eyes, passing out almost immediately afterward.

I wake up within my dream, still in the science classroom, though it's now empty save for a robed figure scrawling away at the chalkboard, the scrapping and tapping serving to give me a mild headache.

The lights are dimmer now, and a very pretty shade of blue that I like a lot. There's some quiet classical piano music playing on the overheads that I almost don't notice.

That's when I notice something else. The striking similarity in this setting and the one from my dream last night. I feel my breath catch in my throat, pressure building in my chest as the air begs to leave my lungs.
