Ellis and Russell were sat on the sofa watching the tv. They were both cuddled on the same leather cushion. Russell had his right foot tucked under his bum to make it easier for Ellis to cuddle closer to him. Both her legs were resting on the sofa and her head was on Russell’s chest, listening to his heart beat. Russell’s muscular arm was behind her with his hand on her hip. His other hand was holding hers, which was rested on this abs. They were watching Him and Her when out of the blue Russell interrupted the show.
‘What’s good about me?’ He asked.
‘What?’ Ellis replied, lifting her head up to look at Russell.
‘Like, why do you like me?’ His face seemed very sad, as though he was going to cry.
‘Why wouldn’t I like you?’ Ellis had to think quickly, ‘You’re perfect!’ Even though what she said was true, she felt she had to say more than that.
‘How?, I’ve got a lazy eye and wonky teeth.’ He sighed, ‘I’m not the best at what I do, I just don’t understand how I have you and the friends that I do.’ Ellis sighed and sat upright to look him in the eye.
‘You’ve had your teeth fixed now and you make hundreds of people laugh, you’re a really nice person Russ that’s why you’re loved by so many people, especially me.’ Ellis felt proud of herself for saying all of that so quickly. The corner of Russell’s mouth raised up a little, almost smiling.
‘But my eye.’ He continued, ‘I’ve had operations on that and it’s still fucked up.’ There was a few seconds of silence as Russell looked down at his feet and Ellis sighed in sympathy for Russell.
‘But it’s still beautiful and blue.’ She told him. He looked at her, waiting for her to continue. ‘And it sparkles so beautifully.’ Russell sighed as quiet as he could to cover it up. He didn’t want to sound vulnerable towards his girlfriend. Ellis put her hand on his jawline and turned his head to face her.
‘And you may not think it but you are handsome.’ She said, taking off his glasses and folding the arms in. She placed them on the foot stool just in front of her. ‘And for me Russ, you are so fucking perfect!’ He smiled a little but it wasn’t convincing enough to please Ellis.
‘Close your eyes’ She said. Ellis leaned forward and kissed his right eyelid, which concealed his lazy eye. Their noses were centimetres apart and they looked each other lovingly in the eye.
‘All better.’ Ellis smiled and Russell smiled back, making Ellis smile even more. Russell kissed her, as a sort of thank you for making him feel better about himself. When they pulled apart Ellis saw a tear rolling down Russell’s cheek. She didn’t know if it was a tear of happiness or sadness, nevertheless she wiped it away and put his glasses back on him.
They gradually turned their attention back to the telly, with their feet interlocked with each other on the foot stool and both arms wrapped tightly around one another. Ellis had put her head back on Russell’s chest and Russell rested his head on top of Ellis’s. Russell had never felt so happy and so loved. He gave Ellis a tight squeeze and kissed her on the head. He wouldn’t know how to make it up to her, but he started by telling her:
‘I love you so much Ellis’. The sound of his voice sounded so much sexier when Ellis had heard it though his chest.
‘I love you too Russ!’ Her voice slightly muffled by his t-shirt. They watched the rest of the show, cuddled comfortably in each other’s arms, smiling like muppets the whole way through.
