"This Thanksgiving" I said, popping into the kitchen where my blonde-haired best friend, Juliette was already eating her breakfast. "I will say my thanks for the caffeine"
"Did you manage to get any sleep?" she took a gulp of orange juice.
"Do I look like?"
"Good point" she said, showing a plate in my direction. "I made you breakfast. You're welcome"
"I'm actually not hungry. I have been snacking since I got home" I started putting the scrambled eggs in a lunchbox, which my mom insisted on buying when I moved out of home. "I had a coffee at the station, and I couldn't sleep after that, so I was working on a case all night."
"Careful. Soon I'll have to bring you in the psych ward with me. You have serious caffeine addiction. What about the crime you had to go out for last night?" Juliette asked me. "I saw it on TV"
"Well, the man was killed by his android. A deviant." I stated then I remembered that I wanted to ask her a question about it. "It's not really my case, but I just can't stop thinking about it. Can an android have PTSD?"
"Well, I know a lot about PTSD" she took a deep breath, eyes on the table, thinking. "But I have no idea of technology."
"I just can't understand, how can deviants feel" I spoke as I made coffee for myself. Jesus, I really had an addiction. "I first thought that it's an error, as everyone else, apparently. But yesterday, when we brought that android in for interrogation, it seemed scared. Terrorized, even. And it was... it was scared of death. How can something not alive be afraid of dying?"
"I think you know the answer. Just putting up the wrong questions"
"What?" I looked at her wide-eyed. "What do you mean?"
"I've never seen a deviant, so I can't tell you if it's real or not" she stood up to clean her plate. "But I heard that the deviancy was spreading like a virus amongst androids. I think they are wrong. You are wrong"
"I still don't understand" I stuttered confused. "J, stop your psychologist mind games and tell me what you mean, because I didn't get any sleep and I might lose my temper."
"I mean, what if it's not a virus?" she took a step closer to me. "What if they are really waking up?"
"Is that possible?"
"Come on, Freya, we've seen enough sci-fi to know everything is possible" she stated, and I sighed. I grabbed my bag as quickly as I could, my hands shaking with fury and I sweared under my breath. In my other hand was my portable coffee mug. I almost dropped it in my hurry. "Woah what the hell got into you?"
"It's just..." I quaked. "Those films don't have happy endings. Not for the humans, and neither for the machines."
"Relax, girl, it's not a 100% possibility that we're gonna die"
