Karsyn’s POV:

August 6th, 2008. This one simple date that to someone with an ordinary life would imagine it to be just another ordinary day. When it actually happens to be the most extravagant day to experience. Across the street from where I lived in a little suburban town called Suffolk, had moved in a little boy named Jacob Anderson.

I’ve lived here for as long as I could remember and with that has many memories of neighbors who had occupied that house before him. Usually they were old married couples or newly weds but never a family with kids. My feelings were both surprised and ecstatic when I saw a married couple with a young boy that looked to be about my age. The father looked to be a built older man in his late thirties and seemed very intimidating. Although, the mother was quite the opposite, she seemed to be a typical housewife in her early thirties and seemed very sweet. As I got a closer look at the mother there seemed to be a pinkish purple bruise on her arm, relatively new. I hesitated as i spoke, “Hi, are you the new neighbors?” The lady just smiled and said, “Well hello there hun, yes we are. It’s nice to meet you. I’m Jamie, and this is my husband George.” She pointed to the big strapping man next to her. He just waved and continued to bring boxes into their new house. Her voice was sweet and gentle like, her smile was glowing and was very inviting. From the corner of my eye I saw something move, I looked over to see the little boy with brown hair walking towards us. “Jacob!”, the lady yelled. “come meet the neighbor girl”. The boy walked over towards us, his steps hesitant, he didn’t say anything at first until Jamie nudged him. “Oh, hi my name’s Jacob”, he said while giving me a small smile. He stood there for a while as if he were waiting for me to say something, then I realized he was waiting for me to introduce myself. “My name’s Karsyn Graves, I live right across the street”, I said while giving him a smile back.

As the years past I found myself growing more and more fond of Jacob. I had had a deep connection with him that I had never had with anyone else besides, of course, my best friend Katherine Wood. I still remember the first time Katherine met Jacob, she spent the night after he moved in. Katherine was so eager to meet him after I had told her about my encounter with him and his family. I told her all about how cute he was, for a third grader that is. That morning we went to go see him, except this time he was already outside.. and shirtless as he was trying to skateboard in his driveway. We thought it was weird he didn’t have a shirt on because at that time I believed boys were gross and repulsive, but I quickly ran back inside, grabbed a shirt from my dads closet and ran back outside. I handed him the shirt and said, “Here, I think you need it more than my dad does."  Every time I mention Jacob’s name nowadays, Katherine and I just laugh as we remember the day my dad lost a shirt and Jacob gained one.

Jacob and I spend time together almost everyday after school since then. Now we’re both 14 and go to Kings Fork middle. Unfortunately we didn’t have any classes together, so we would meet up in the library during lunch just to see each other. It made me feel really special that he would rather hangout with me than his guy friends, and Katherine comes to eat with us too. Today Jacob was out sick, so it was just me and Katherine. “You know pouting isn’t going to help anything”, said Katherine. “I know but I just miss him”, I said while pouting even more. Katherine isn’t responsive at first but she gives me ‘the look’ then smirks and says “Ohhh I get it, you like him don’t you. AWWWH MY BEST FRIEND HAS A CRUSH.” Katherine has such a big mouth it only takes me until she said “awh” to quickly put my hands over her mouth and tell her to keep her voice down. “Okay Katherine shut up, I don’t need the entire school to know”, I say while blushing wildly. Thank God before Katherine could say another word the bell rang to go to next period, so I quickly said goodbye to her and ran off to my next class.
