It soon became clear to me that, without a doubt, I was sorely lacking in the athletics department. That was clear from the last week of intense workout I put myself through under the direction of Mr. Yas. That didn't mean I was a waste of effort. I just needed to get back into the flow of being in shape after all these years of not. My point is my body was lacking what it needed to even begin really training as a Demon Slayer. So I spent my days following an outline of different workouts to prepare myself for winter break.

In three weeks' time, I would travel to his mountain home once again where he would finally begin the training that would prepare me for the life of a demon hunter. It was the Thursday after the attack, so a week had passed, and classes had resumed. I had woken at the break of dawn and began my morning jog. A jog that would end at the gym- two miles away. Once I had arrived, I allowed my body to cool down with one of those weird-ass smoothies they sell at places like these. Protein-packed and with enough caffeine to get over my morning tiredness.

Around half an hour later I entered the gym filled with early morning workout fanatics and since it's an on-campus gym most were students or professors. I began with light stretches and slowly built myself up to a more intensive workout that included very heavy weights. Soon enough my forty minutes of hell was over. When I left the building, the sun had fully risen into the sky and sat on its perch just above the browning mountains. The outline told me to walk home after exercising and as much as I wanted to call a taxi; I knew it would do me no favors in the long run. It supposedly allowed my body to cool down for the day.

My watch told me it was just before eight o'clock in the morning, so that left me a good four hours before my first class of the day. When I arrived at my apartment thirty minutes later the small building was just awakening with the busy lives of college kids and anyone else who dared share a building with them. The apartment complex was extremely close to the college, so it was in high demand for most students. My roommate and I had scored this place during the off-season from an elderly couple moving to some far off place called Minnesota.

I snorted at my joke as I wandered into my apartment throwing my backpack onto the couch. My roommate was still asleep in his room at the end of the hall. With a sigh, I gave a few hard pounds to his door, careful to keep it quiet enough that Mrs. Sara won't make a complaint with the landlord again. He had work this morning and was likely to oversleep if I didn't wake him. Without waiting to see if he did indeed wake up, I entered the bathroom and quickly got undressed intent of having a quick shower before the hot water was gone.

An hour later I sat on our creaky old couch while watching the morning news and eating a large bowl of cereal. My roommate sat next to me doing much of the same, though he was mostly on his phone.

"So how'd it go with that one girl... um... Samantha?" I asked.

"Shitty. She wouldn't stop talking about damn politics all night. I could barely get a word in much less a kiss." He replied.

I grunted in amusement at his lack of game. He turned to look at me, his caramel skin highlighting his narrowed green eyes.

"Oh, you find my love life funny now? What about you mister suddenly started working out?"

"I'm just saying, Jack, it's not unexpected when you knew the girl was majoring in political science and runs a fan club that meets weekly to discuss books about politics."

Jack sighed in defeat, leaning back and letting a long groan escape from the cushions.

"Fine, you win. At least tell me why you have started working out? You literally haven't actively gone out of your way to getting into shape since middle school."
