One Day, Maybe.

Chapter Three

AKIN

"No noo" I yell as I try to grab onto Desire. I tug on her necklace, the same necklace I gave her when I confessed my undying love for her and asked her to be my girlfriend. It loosens.

Everything happened so fast, before I could blink she was on the other side of the road bleeding out.

For a moment, I froze. I saw my whole world flash before my eyes and crumble at my feet, to lie in the dirt with my already shattered heart.

Then I ran. I ran for her and scooped her in my arms.

"No no no noo no baby wake up please you can't do this to me, baby please I'm sorry, I'm so so sorry" I cry. I yell but she doesn't move. She feels so cold and looks so .... I can't even think the word.

There's a gash at the side of her head where the blood seems to be rushing out, her legs bent at an awkward angle on the floor.

"Somebody help" I yell out and the driver of the car comes down. It's a woman and she's already in tears and trembling like a leaf.

"Oh my God, I'm so sorry. I didn't mean to hit her but she came in front of my car so suddenly. I tried to stop but ...." she explains in tears.

"Shut up" I cut her off  "Don't just stand there do something. Call an ambulance, call the police, call anybody. Do something" I yell at her and she scrambles back to her car.

I cup Desire's face in my hands and kiss all over her face, her blood stains my face, I hug her close and whisper in her ear.

"Desire I know this is all my fault and I'm sorry but baby please don't punish me like this, you can yell at me, you can slap me all you want but please wake up, baby wake up" I cry

I refuse to believe she's dead. She can't be dead, she can't just leave me. She promised to always be with me.

A lot of cars have stopped by now, causing traffic on the road. Some passersby are recording what's happening.

"Desire baby please I love you, please don't do this to me, you promised me. You promised you'll never leave me, please don't leave me I'm nothing without you" I sob.

I don't know how long I sat there crying and begging for her to wake up but the ambulance finally arrives.

They place her on a stretcher, I get into the car and hold her hand as they try to save her life.

"She has a pulse but it's very weak, she's lost a lot of blood. I don't think she'll make it" one of the paramedics says and I yell at her.

"Shut up don't say that, don't you ever say that. She'll live she has to " I mumble the last part.

I move closer to Desire and continue to plead with her hoping she'll finally wake up.

We make it to the hospital and they rush her straight to the operating room. I don't know how long I sat there in the waiting room praying to God but it felt like years.

Then it occurred to me that I haven't informed Desire's parents of the accident. My head feels like there's an elephant sitting on it.

I check my pockets and there's no phone so I move to the reception desk and ask the attendant for her phone. She must've seen my plight and decided to help me. She even offered me a cup of water which I declined, I don't think I can stomach anything right now.

I don't even know how I'll explain what just happened to Desire's parents.

After summoning all my courage , I make the call. Nobody picks up. I call again, still no one picks the call.
I leave five missed calls and check the time, 4:15.

Then I decide to call the one person that'll probably be awake at this time, Ayomide.

Desire's sister, the same one I was apparently banging just hours ago.

God I'm in such a mess.

"Hello".

"Ayo it's Akin. There's been an accident, Desire is in the hospital".

"What" she screeches "What do you mean she's in the hospital.....What happened".

"What do you think happened" I yell and a nurse passing by sends me a glare.

"Akin about earlier...."

"I don't want to talk about it...Just inform your parents and be here as fast as you can" I sigh and cut the call.

I don't know how I'll face her when they get here, after everything. I'll just have to cross that bridge when I get there.
