Chapter 1

It happens every year.
The crystal ball brings our new year to us. Full of new mistakes and victories. New moments and new memories. My friend Charlotte wants to throw a huge party this year. I am to help her. We put together beautiful flyers. The theme is simple.

Hidden identities. I think it's more like a masquerade ball but whatever.

There should be an even amount of boys and girls. Each person will have a mask on their face. At the front door each guy will be given a Rose with a number attached. Each girl will be given a number. At eleven each guy must find his girl and get to know each other. At midnight as the ball drops they will share a midnight kiss and may remove their masks if they wish.

My name is Candice Summers. Everyone calls me Candi. I am the most geeky and nerdy girl at our school. This was my choice. On the first day of school I purposely spilled beeferoni all over Melanie Gardner and instantly was labeled as a geek. It's not like I dress badly. In the winter I wear floral
Skirts and black leggings with my sweaters. I have huge fake glasses
that add to my nerdy appeal but that's as bad as my outfit gets.

It is not like I am poor. Heck my family is far from it. My dad owns a huge candy company and my mother owns a successful bakery. We're happy, but I don't want the popularity, the fake friends, and the drama. My best friend, Charlotte, is not too popular but she is pretty high up. I am helping her plan this party.

"Ok that vase goes over there to the left." I yelled as the movers moved in a lovely marble vase that was supposed to be positioned by the front door. "No not your left mine! It's always my left!" Let's just say I want everything to be perfect. After the vase was in place we filled it with white and black roses. The decor was simple. White drapes
With black table clothes and clear glasses. White napkins were positioned perfectly along the place settings at the tables which were situated in the left side of the room. A huge projector was set up near the front with abc turned on so everyone could watch New Years Rocking Eve.

"Where is Candi! We need to get ready, it's 3 hours till 7 and that barely leaves us enough time!" My best friend Charlottes voice echoed as she entered the ball room. She quickly grabbed my wrist and dragged me up the stairs to her room which was painted white with quotes from books lettered in silver along the walls. Our dresses hung side by side on her closet door. Hers was a black princess gown with the fabric bunched up around the full skirt. It was plain and elegant. My dress had black lace on top which fanned out into a full white skirt. I had clear heels with a black rose In the front. She had silver colored heels. Our heels were specially made and one of a kind but the thing that set me apart from her was the bracelet that she got me last year. With handcrafted charms and one with my initials C.A.S it was the best gift I had ever received.

Three hours later and Charlie was already down stairs greeting people as they walked through the door. I'm to nervous to walk down and see everyone who hated me despite the fact they wouldn't know it was me. My mask covered the top of my face while only showing my eyes. I lifted my mask up to my face and grabbed the piece of paper Charlie left for me. I unfolded it and looked at the number which was handwritten onto it.
