----------*Midoriya POV*
I never thought I would end up here. Not on my life. Guess it shows how fucked my life really is. I sigh as I ring the bell. I hear shuffling from behind the door before it burst open. A young woman with long brown hair is behind it. Her cheerful smile contradicts every feeling I have about this place.
"Welcome to the Ground Zero Agency! The number one hero has been expecting you! Please, come in."
The woman turns around and I follow her in, closing the door behind myself.
----------
Bakugou and I had been friends as kids. I thought we would be partners forever. Until that fateful day where I was told I didn't have a quirk. My life shattered before my very eyes. The only person I thought I could turn to turned against me. I was humiliated, not only because of being quirkless, but because I let him down. Since then, we have hardly spoken. Well, at least I haven't spoken. He's done plenty on his own.
I've heard the names before. I know I'm just a quirkless wannabe, that I'll never be a hero, but I guess I've learned to accept it. Even after completing the General Studies course at UA, I still knew I could never truly be a hero without a quirk. Kacchan has never failed to remind me. All through school he constantly poked and prodded, trying to get a reaction. At first, it worked. But I got tired and gave up. His pestering still came, but I just would not give in.
After our schooling, he became the number one hero, and I, well, I collected trash. At least, I did. Only a month ago did my world come crashing down again. My mother, Inko, was sick. Very sick. The kind of sick where they are able to count your time left on both hands. The doctors told me there's a chance she could make it, of course with expensive medicines and procedures. I just don't have the money.
Which leads me here. To the number one heros agency. He had a position open, something that paid much more than I was currently making, but was it worth my sanity? Absolutely.
----------
I followed the kind looking woman to an elevator, which we stepped into and rose to the 3rd floor. Kacchan had a large agency, almost the biggest in Japan. As we rose, light music played happily, but I could not feel more gloomy. The further we rose, the more a pit started to form in my stomach. Could I really do this? I hadn't seen him in years! How would he react?
Before I could answer any of my inner ramblings, the elevator stopped. The doors slid open and we stepped out. The woman gestured for me to follow her. Across the hall were large wooden doors. A plaque attached to the wall next to the door read "Katsuki Bakugou." Before reaching the door, the woman turned to me.
"I have heard lots about you! Mr. Bakugou talks about you around the office quite a bit, especially since your interest in working with him!"
I'm not sure how to respond, so I force a light laugh and mutter, "Wonderful," although I feel anything but. She then gives me a full toothed smile and turns back around. She reaches her hand up to knock and I almost stop it. I was nervous. Sweat poured out of my arms and down my back. It was too late to change, too late to run. I had to do this. For my mother.
Three curt knocks were placed on the door. Before the final knock even finished I heard a muffled "Come in!" from behind the door. The woman turned the gold knob and the door to my worst nightmare opened.
"Hello Deku. Long time no see."
