How Young Are You?

My childhood lies in my memory

Confined to imagination

And the influence of the media

86

Time waits for no man

But man waits for time

Eagerly

49

The refusal of the age

And the ageing self

Is useless and futile

15

Fate is meant to be accepted

As a universal everlastingness

Otherwise you’ll be dead

Nothing makes sense anymore.

Be true to your youth

Your vigor and your couth

Your wisdom and your maturity

Your courage and your sanity

That is if you have any.

You have been exposed to the world

My dear

Through an ornamental kaleidoscope

And saw frivolous things

The past

The present

And the future

Mesmerising and captivating

Your young heart, filling it

With the burning desire

To take on the world.

Yet you have been deceived

Umpteen times

Allowing, forcing you

To change your mind

About your challenging challenges

And you grew up.

Life is brief,

Bold;

Summed up in years,

Artificial years

(Created by man)

Once you advanced in the years,

Artificial years,

Congratulations; felicitations!

You are old.

Regardless of everything

It is insensitive and rude to

Ask somebody

Their age in this world

Or better still

Their level of maturity

Summed up in years,

Artificial years.

Because everyone is old.

But when it dawned upon ourselves

With a sudden strike of realisation;

Where there is oldness in youth,

There is youth in oldness.

Because everyone is young.
