I sat at my desk. What to do..what to do..
All of a sudden, Phoenix peeked into my room. "Hey, wanna watch movies or something in the living room?" she asked. "Oh, sure," I said, "I'm bored anyway."
I walked down the long staircase. I stayed in my room most of the time. The summer was ending, quicker than I was expecting. Auntie Sarah said she was going to enroll us into high school. I felt a bad feeling, but I let it go, thinking it was just nervousness. But maybe not.
I collapsed on the couch while Phoenix turned on the TV. She took a single glance at me and asked, "Hey, are you ok?" "Yeah," I said, "just..bored I guess." "Worried about school?" "Uh, I guess," I replied.
"Y'know, if you ever need help, you can just ask me, ok?" "Oh, thanks," I said gratefully.
Time Skip to First Day of School
"See you at 2:30!" Auntie Sarah told us. "Ok," I replied.
As she and Uncle Alex drove off of campus, a girl walked up to us. She had dark brown hair, gray eyes, an olive green headband, and the same uniform as us. Another student, I guessed. "Hello! I'm Brianna! You guys are new, right?" the girl asked. "Yeah," Ashly said. "Welcome, it's nice to see some newcomers!" Brianna exclaimed.
Brianna gave us a short tour of the school and stopped suddenly when she saw three girls hanging out in the hallway. "Oh, and that's Kayla. She's the second most popular girl. The first is the class president. Those two other girls are her followers, y'know, like every other popular girl," she said while narrowing her eyes and sighing. Phoenix grumbled something under her breath. I could barely make it out. "What was that?" Brianna asked. "Arrrgh," Ashly whisper-yelled, "Why does every popular girl have to have blond hair, blue eyes, and be super mean?! That just annoys me!"
"I guess that's how it works...?" I guessed, "Also, Brianna never said Kayla was-" "Actually, she's very rude. She's super sassy towards the teachers, and she acts like everyone loves her. And half of the school does, but like I just said, only half," Brianna interuppted. I sighed.
At Lunch..
I sat down at a table with Phoenix, Hazel, Carey, Brianna, and one other girl. "Where's Holly and Dawn?" I asked the group. "Oh, they're with other friends they met," Hazel replied. "Oh." That made sense, to have a lot of friends, because they could always help you during bad times. And because of fun in general. The other girl sitting next to Brianna was still quiet, so Brianna decided to introduce her. "So, guys, this is Sophia," Brianna told us. Sophia had the same uniform as us (well, duh), green eyes, brown hair in a braid, and glasses. She almost looked the same as Brianna, but her hair was a light brown and Brianna's was dark brown, and Sophia's eyes were cyan and Brianna's were gray.
Sophia waved awkwardly and looked down at her plate. "She's really smart," Brianna added, probably to make Sophia feel better about herself. Sophia slowly nodded. She finally regained the confidence to look at us. "Um, hi," she said. Me, Phoenix, Hazel and Carey waved. We finished our lunch, talking about conspiracies, school, and life. Me and my 'sisters' didn't talk much about our backstories, because Carey told us, "We never know what would happen, we need to be careful."
ANOTHER TIME SKIP
I flopped onto my bed. I looked at my computer, as if I was expecting it to turn on and give me all the answers to my homework. I sighed and took out my assignments. Just some math problems, a passage with comprehension questions, and a short essay.
A little while later, when I was starting my short essay, Auntie Sarah popped her head in. "Hello dear, how are you doing?" "Fine," I said. "Well, I have something to tell you," she said. She stepped into the room. Her grayish-blond hair glistened in the dim light. "So, we didn't tell you that a long time before you came, we had a daughter," she said to me slowly. I looked up. "W-what..?" She nodded. "Of course," she continued, "she doesn't live with us anymore, but she comes over every September. I looked at the calendar and said, "But today's September 3."
Sarah said, "Well, because she goes on lots of trips to many different places, as a mythologist, she usually arrives on September 8." I glanced at the calendar again. That was on a Saturday. "Ok." I then glanced at my paper. I really wanted to finish my essay. Sarah seemed to notice I was busy, because she looked at my paper and said, "Well, I'll give you more information later."
I wondered how long later was.
***
Sarah pressed call. The phone began ringing, and after a few moments, it was answered. "Hello?"
"Hi Rose. It's me."
"Oh, hi mom."
"Listen, I've got some exciting news for you."
"Uh, what is it?"
"I..er..adopted a few homeless kids."
"You what?"
"Yeah."
"Um...good for you?"
"Uh, thanks."
*Rose is silent for a moment and grumbles*
"Mom, I thought you always think of me as special."
"I..I do."
"Yeah, until you randomly became some homeless kids' grandma!"
"I...I don't understand. I do value you, and I'd never doubt you."
"Let me ask you something. Do you ever think about me when I'm away?"
"Sometimes.."
"Exactly..."
"Look, Rose, you'll love the girls, their names are Lynn, Phoenix, Carey, Dawn, Holly, and Hazel."
"...Wait a minute.."
"?"
"The prophecy...it said the six heroes would all be girls..and their names would start with L, P, C, D, and H."
"Hon.."
"So that's why! You chose them because they were going to be the six heroes! You want to gain fame in the Sun Realm again! Are you that selfish?!"
"..."
Call ended.
***
At first I heard someone yelling in a muffled voice, it was probably someone on the other end of a phone, and then I heard someone crying. Phoenix shot up but Uncle Alex said, "I'll handle this." All of us sat in silence. "Was..was that Auntie Sarah..?" Holly asked. "I think so.." I replied quietly.
