Zayde's World

I'm Zayde, I am 27 years old and I graduated with a bachelor's degree for a Correctional Officer from Central State university. I've lived in Wilberforce, Ohio my whole life so it wasn't a surprise that I went to the college locally. I couldn't leave my mom or my sisters side, so I stayed close.  My life has always been and uphill battle. My sister and I were raised by my mother since I was 12 years old. My dead beat dad left after my sister Nova was born and she is now 15 years old. I had to stay strong for my mom, Sadie, after my pops left. It was hard to raise us on her own but she managed.

Because of my pops leaving, I got into the streets at an early age of 13. I started dealing and hanging with the streets' most well known drug lord, KB. KB took me in and taught me everything that I know. He always told me that he wanted me to take over the game when it was his time to step back. I wasn't always so sure that king of the streets would be for me. I managed to still stay in school while I did my dealings in the streets. I stayed out of trouble the majority of the time and lived what most people would call a normal life. I played football throughout my high school years which got me a full scholarship to Central. I was set and my mom did not have to worry about making sure my schooling was paid for. It was a win win situation.

My best friend Tye went to Central as well but he had it made unlike me. He has a momma and a daddy and they were pretty much swimming in the money. That didn't stop Tye from hustling in the streets though. He had no absolute need for money or anything for that matter but Tye insisted on being a street nigga since we were young. I could never understand it. I only do this shit to survive, he does this shit for fun. But that was my nigga.

We won't talk about how many bodies I've had to catch dealing with the streets, but let's just say I've had my share of niggas that needed to be taken care of.  I've always planned to try to give Nova a better life than I had and so far I thought I was doing pretty good. For the first 3 years of her life, she always called me dad, even though momma told her I'm her brother, I guess I've been that figure to her. There isn't much to this hood nigga beside I try to set an example for Nova.

                                                                                                           ZAYDE POV

"Alright newbies, I'm headed out. If there are any issues, call me first before the warden. Got it?" I called out to the staff of the correctional facility. I was the head officer and it was time for me to leave for the day. I just hired 3 new CO's for the building so they were all here including some vet CO's. It's ironic is a hell that I work as a CO although I deal drugs but I can guarantee the violence on the streets is at a minimum for obvious reasons. Being head CO and King of the Streets had it's benefits. Another reason I liked this job was because I got to work closely with my boy Tye. He was in charge of the Inmate resources which is basically HR.

I made my way through the front doors to be greeted by Tye who was waiting for me by the door. Since we had the same schedule, we would carpool to work and this week was his driving week.

"Waddup nigga? What was you doing, making the newbies suck ya dick?" Tye joked. This nigga was always on some shit.

"Nah nigga, I had your mom doing it." I said to him as I punched his arm playfully.

"Shut up nigga, my mom don't want yo ugly ass." He chuckled as we walked through the parking lot.

"Shit I can't tell, the way she was staring at a nigga the last time." I said to him as I licked my lips and put my bag into the back of his car.

"Fuck you bro." He yelled as he got in and started the car.

Tye and I have been close as hell and cool for years, so upon graduating high school, we both moved out and into a house together not to far from our families and campus. It was one of his mom's properties so we really didn't have to pay for shit. He turned on our usual drive home playlist while I laid back in the seat scrolling though my Twitter timeline.

I came across this tweet from this baddie named "brin_xoxo". I stopped dead in my tracks and clicked shorty's profile. She was mad cute and she lived here in Wilberforce. I had been here my whole life and I haven't ever seen shorty so I went to investigate. I clicked the Instagram link she had in her twitter bio and scrolled through a few of her pictures. She even went to Central, how did I not know her.

"Aye nigga, have you seen this girl before?" I said as I showed Tye her profile.

"Nah G, who is she?" he replied returning his focus to the road.

"Shorty name on Twitter is brin_xoxo and she on Insta as xoxo_brinli. I just came across her and she live here and went to CSU." I informed him. I was kind of interested in finding this girl but it wasn't my main concern.

"I'm boutta follow her fine ass on twitter. Guarantee she'll be in my DMs like "ooohh daddy"." I said to him laughing.

"Hell if she knows what's good for her, she'll run the other way, FAST." He said laughing as he shook his head.

"Fuck you dude." I  mumbled as I turned my attention back to her picture that was on my screen. She looked god, and I was going to find her.

My night continued as usual as Tye and I arrived at home after picking up food. We chilled for the remainder of the night before separating and heading to bed. I took my night shower and refreshed myself for bed. On my way to my room I caught my reflection in the mirror and stopped to check myself out.

"Damn I look good." I said out loud to myself.

"No nigga, your still ugly!" I heard Tye call out from his room.

I chuckled, "Don't be mad that your mom be on this!" I called out to him. "Good Night nigga."

"Yeah right. Night fam." he said in return.

I got under my covers and it didn't take long for me to fall asleep.
