"Pink or Lavender?" Beth hung up both streamers against the wall showing, it to me. While the lavender did have a nice tone with the directions too much of it was leaving me uneased.
"There is too much lavender, let's add pink," She nodded her head, sticking it on the wall. I snatched the sandwich from the countertop taking a bite of it.
"I know, im freaking out, but we just sprung up the divorce conversation, I want them to think of something else for a change." She stood back, appreciating the placement. You remembered when Beth told the kids but they took it surprisingly well.
"Take them to Disney," Beth turned to me as I was finishing up my sandwich.
"Dean's business is not doing great, money is tight," Always. I walked away, seeing the birthday girl run in. She hopped on Beth giving her a hug. Beth twirled her around before placing her back on the floor.
"Is daddy coming?"
"yes baby but he's gonna be a little late," Beth continued with Emma, making you smile.
Once the kids' family came in, Beth turned on Mom mode and left her kids to play while she saw if any parents needed anything. I was watching the kids when Emma came running to me. She had a boy next to her, waiting quietly.
"Emma, introduce me to your friend,"
"This is Marcus," Marcus smiled waving his hand. "Marcus was wondering if you could play with us?" I nodded, joining them into their group.
I was playing around with the kids when I noticed Beth and Dean arguing in the corner. I tried overhearing the conversation but they were too far to get a full sentence. I turned to Emma, "Hey princess I think it's your turn to play Marco, I'll catch up," Emma ran to the other kids as I walked towards the arguing parents, hearing parts of the arguments.
"This costs money you nor I have," Dean hushed. Beth tried keeping her cool but her red cheeks told a different story.
"It's my kids' birthday, it's not their fault their father is useless-" I interrupted the sentence.
"Hey, what's happening over here," Dean looked to me, before turning back to Beth.
"NOTHING" He yelled, storming from the backyard. Beth tried to hold her composure as she smiled to the other clueless parents, but this was Beth we were talking about. I grabbed her shoulder, pulling her to the room, closing the blinds.
She collapsed on the bed, her tears letting go of any strain she had. I pulled her into a hug, rubbing small circles on her back, trying to soothe her. "Beth you could talk to me,"
"Its nothing, im just stressed with everything," You didn't believe her. Beth had a problem she swallowed everything without letting people help her. She wiped her tears off, standing back up. "Im fine I promise now im gonna go back out there and entertain," She gave me a hug, before walking away. My pocket buzzed, stopping me from following Beth. It was from Rio.
are you home?
yes
"Do you like being in this room when the party is happening outside," I yelped turning around, seeing Rio leaning on the doorframe.
"Jesus, what are you doing here?" He smiled coming closer to me.
"I can't come to visit my favorite girl," He joked, standing in front of me, his familiar cologne surrounding me.
"We both know thats not why," Rio smiled, leaning down to give me a kiss. I missed this, I pulled him closer wrapping my arms around him, not wanting to let him go.
"I have to go do some things after this and I wanted to see you," You questioned him, making him smile. "I can't hide anything from you can I?" You shook your head, giving him a pop kiss.
"I have to go out of town for a business meeting," I huffed placing my head against his chest. "I'm coming back," He caressed his thumb across my cheek. "I actually did get you something," He reached into his pocket, grabbing a small box handing it to me.
"It's Emma's birthday, not mine," I smiled, looking up at him. I opened the box, seeing a key.
"Now you can annoy me at any time," I nudged him causing a laugh to erupt from Rio.

Annie handed me my second cup of scotch as Beth put her kids down. When Beth came back she collapsed on her couch, letting out a small groan. Annie handed her the cup of scotch, watching as she scarfed the remainder down her throat."2nd birthday down 3 more to go," The girls started giggling as Ruby turned on the tv. " I have to tell you guys something," We all stared at her.
"I get nightmares with those words," Annie whined. You were confused as this had nothing to do with Rio.
Beth's mischievous smile didn't let up on our worries. "You girls are looking at the new and improved Elizabeth Marks," We all cheered, clinking our scotch cups. "It feels nice being single," Beth turned to Ruby.
"dont look at me, we made a promise in sickness and in health," making us erupt in laughter. Ruby and Stan were complete ride or die, I dont think anything is gonna break them.
"How about you and Noah," I turned to Annie. Annie had been quiet about her ever-growing feelings for this guy but her step had a little bit more pep ever since she met this dude. While you didn't know much of this guy he seemed like a nice dude.
"It's been nice, he's really nice and he's been amazing with Sadie," Annie started blushing, she turned to me changing the subject
How about you and gangfriend?" she added.
"What is his name, it cant be Rio?" Beth asked. Your brain drew a blank. I've known Rio for over almost a year and i don't even know his real name. It got me thinking, what do I know about him other than his a leader to a gang that I fell upon. I mean he gave me keys to his apartment and i dont even know his real name.
"Hey look at the time, I have class tomorrow," I shook the thought away getting up from the couch. Beth looked at me concerned but stayed silent, as I walked upstairs heading to bed.
