"I'm so glad I met you."
The truck door slams shut, his eyes widening in unison with his smile. Robby had never lived alone but was more than excited at the thought. Though he would have preferred to live with his two best friends, he was happy that he was taking his first steps to becoming a successful game designer like he'd always dreamed. He sighed heavily but happily as he grabbed the boxes that contained so many memories of his young life. Whether it be small figurines he had stolen from stores with his younger brothers, or a poster he had bought on a night at the local super center with his best friend, they shook all the same as he walked towards his dorm room door. He reached for the key in his worn hoodie pocket, having protected it all day during his first day of class out of sheer worry that it would somehow disappear. Yet there it was safely guarded in his grasp as he opened the door.
"Honey, I'm home!" He jokingly mumbled, not wanting to be too loud in case his roommates had moved in before him and were resting peacefully. It was surprisingly late, seeing as how his trip for groceries and fast food took way longer than expected. Aided by the long conversations held with his best friend Mav no less, his plans had altered as usual, bringing upon his late entrance. He set down his heavier boxes, glancing around the dark and empty living room, imagining all the ways he can make it feel more cozy and homey before landing upon the plan to make it look like a classic japanese dining room he had seen in most animes he binged. Nodding at the thought, he locked the door before continuing to his room, trying his best to step softly upon the carpet only to fail due to his large and heavy feet and creaky floorboards. As he approached the door to his room, reaching for the handle, Robby heard something. What seemed to be the springs of his rooms bed were squealing softly from something being atop it.
Someone was on his bed.
Something was on his bed.
Hesitating to grab the knob, he reminded himself of what the landlord had told him about the room he'd be sleeping in and the reason it was cheaper then other rooms. Having dealt with a house with rats his whole life, this thought helped fill Robby with enough confidence to grab a hold of the knob and turn it slowly. His fist clenched and in the air ready to deck any demon or villain who was napping on his new bed, he opened the door quickly. As brave as he was in the moment, his eyes were still squeezed shut, only opening when an array of sudden noises shot through the air. A swift breeze jolted above his head before all commotion ceased. His room was empty. "What the fuck?" He whispered to himself, his heart picking up pace. "I swear I heard something." He mumbled as his eyes darted around the room, searching for any sign of life to explain his confusion. His eyes set on the vent above the door, noticing it's metal slightly bent, and the nails keeping it attached to the wall missing.
The same memory that eased his mind just a few moments ago now troubled his thoughts. "The land lord did seem super sketchy when she explained why my room was so cheap." He questioned, starting to believe something paranormal was taking place in his new room.
Flicking on the lights and sitting on his bed he scratched his messy and curly head of hair, Robby pondered all the possibilities that explain his current freaky situation.
"Maybe it's a big ass rat? Or a cute spider? Or a cute loli girl that lives in my vents? Or a crazy killer homeless man?" He wondered as he laid back, letting the softness of the small bed comfort him, his panicked ideas now becoming more of a shooting range for cool stories that would make his college life more exciting. "Or a spec ops agent spying on me to see if I'm as good as my gaming skills might suggest!" He thought before quickly aiming his imaginary gun at the vent. "One shot and you're dead, so be careful with your next move." He grinned, staring down the invisible scope of his very unreal fictional weapon. His stomach growled, reminding him to set up his new room as soon as possible before his burgers get cold. Soon enough he was wiping his sweaty hands on his pajama pants, leaning close to the tv to make sure he spotted every enemy that was nearby. But with every head shot, his eyelids grew heavier. Using his last brain cell to decide to go to bed, he shut off his console and turned off the tv. Falling back onto his bed, the springs squealed from his heavy body, his half eaten burger displayed atop his chest as a sign of defeat. His eyes blinking softly before drifting off into a heavy slumber.
They open once more to catch a glimpse of a figure hovering over him ominously. It's long bright blue tendrils flowing in the dark, the moons light reflecting off it's small thin body.
No matter the strange sight, lady slumber called to Robby as his eyes shut.
