Natalie postured herself over Jacqueline with a spray bottle. Her previous attempts at waking Jacqueline had not proven successful and there was a full day of activities and errands planned. Her intent was not to be abrasive but to get her up, shove some aspirin down her throat and hand her a full bottle of water. She'd need it after the tequila shots they did last night. TJ and MoMo were right by Natalie's side to observe and perhaps to participate in the action.
"Wake up!" Natalie said softly.
No response.
More spray and anxious yelping from the dogs. The spray bottle like the hose was a favorite of theirs.Jacqueline awoke coughing and sputtering. Her arms flailed to ward off water and dogs. She tried to open her mouth to talk or yell but it took several attempts.
"Did you scotch tape my tongue to the roof of my mouth last night?" Jacqueline mumbled while still sputtering.
"Here take these and drink this," Natalie shoved the aspirin in her mouth and gave her the bottle of water, then stepped away pulling the dogs with her to give space.
"Is waterboarding your guests included in the rental price?" Jacqueline asked moving her tongue around in her mouth to loosen it up.
"That's a freebie", Natalie quipped with a devious smile, "C'mon, we've got stuff to do."
Jacqueline tried to sit up, but her head wasn't having it.
"Holy crap!" She complained bringing her hands to her forehead, "my head is bumpin'"
"Hahaha! Nice street talk, Polly Purebred!" Natalie taunted.
"Don't, just don't" Jacqueline dismissed as she started gulping the water. Sixteen ounces finished in one gulp, hand reached out for the other bottle on the bedside table.
"You're welcome," Natalie chided as she pushed the water over to her.
Jacqueline inhaled and exhaled deeply while attempting to sit up. More water down the hatch.
MoMo responded to her inability to sit up immediately by putting her head on Jacqueline's lap.
"Aww MoMo, giving Aunt Jackie some love and compassion. I appreciate it." MoMo wagged her tail as Jacqueline gave her a peck on the head.
Natalie was already dressed for the first activity of the day. She sat on the bed opposite Jacqueline and said,"You're hurting aren't you?"
"Yeah, not just my head but all over," Jacqueline answered with a puzzled expression, "Feels like I was hit by a car. I'm guessing wine was not all I had last night," she expressed while guzzling the other 16 oz of water.
"Very observant!"
"Got it Natalie. What prompted my urge to poison myself with alcohol and what was the alcohol of choice?"
"As we were coming by the kitchen to come upstairs, you got a text," Natalie began, "You looked at it, turned off the sound and shouted Muuuuu-therrrrrrr-FUCKER! You were pissed!"
"I let that dipshit get to me!" Jacqueline whispered regretfully.
"You asked if I had anything stronger to drink so we got into the tequila," Natalie recited, "We started doing shots."
Jacqueline's head was in her hand while her other was on MoMo's head. TJ joined MoMo to offer extra comfort.
"How many shots did we do?"
"I did 4, you did 6 or 7"
"Why didn't you stop me?"
"I was pretty buzzed myself. Every time I'd pour 2 you'd drink them both."
"Shiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiit," Jacqueline moaned.
"We were toasted," Natalie laughed, "I finally got you to the top of the stairs and you slipped and tumbled all the way down."
